Anyone got any base tire pressure settings for Pilot Race tires for a trackday? |

I run the H2s on my Firebolt at 30 and 30 for the track. Seems to work. Ride to the edge! Dave Iowa HD/Buell (Buell Cycle Center) |

Ben, I agree with Dave starting out at 30/30. You should see a 10% increase in pressure between your cold reading and immediately off of the track. I run Dunlop DOTs and typically run 32 rear/30 front (S1). Have fun! WFO |

I was running my M1s at 30/30 last time I was out on the track. Probably would've bumped it up to about 30f/31r, but I couldn't get the tires cold enough to do the pressures right. |

good rule of thumb left over from pre-jurassic days . . .. cold pressure should yield a 2 - 3 psi increase when hot . . . . . |

WOW.. I am relativaly new to bikes. But have done a lot of car racing. I am used to 12 psi increases. Also if I keep my xb9r less than 38 psi on the street the front end shakes like mad. I would have assumed if on a bike it only raises a couple psi that I would start at 33-34 cold... Hmm. I can't wait for my first track day on this thing to find out... |

Oconnor . .. .. while I've only an hour or so seat time on the XB chassis, something doesn't sound right about a scoot that shakes it's head like mad w/pressures below 38psi . . . . I'd check things like headstock bearings, the madman behond the bars holding too tight, and like that (almost added read wheel alignment . . . . oops)

My XB is real touchy about tire pressure, too. I can feel a distinct wallowing if its low, even by a pound or two. 38rear/36front (just like the manual says) has been right for me on the street. Not having spent any time on a track, I couldn't say anything about that environment. And, on the other hand, to much pressure and the bike gets tippy. As to the diff between cold and hot tire pressures, I get way more than 2-3 psi change. 'course I'm in Florida, and the roads get HOT in the summer. -Geof |

Finally went to first trackday, south course of VIR. First two sessions in the rain, then the track dried out. Last session out was on a mostly dry track, and it was big fun! I made it to the edge of the tire, but not far enough to get that "true racer" shredded sidewall look. The only issue I had was jitters-related. I spent 10 minutes trying to start the bike (and cursing appropriately, with bystanders, who loaned me a jump battery) until I realized the fuel petcock was "on" but not on "reserve".... oops! I was the ONLY Buell there, got a fair number of thumbs-up from the other riders. I also had the distinct pleasure of having a GSXR1000 pass me two feet to my right going 60mph or so faster than me (I was taking a class, and we were checking up on the front straight, I was going around 80 mph and he was flat out) Highly, highly recommend VIR. Beautiful track! Again, thanks to all for the pressure advice. Ben |
