Mike: If, in fact, that is true and if, in fact, some of the corresponding motorcycles have fallen into the hands of "Elves", a meting might be able to be arranged. Send me more info about where to look. These were very special motorcycles. Court |

Last year or probably the year before there were rumors posted that if an S2 owner would contact a certain individual within Buell that individual would look through the cabinet (or parts bin, or Banker's Box, or plain brown paper bag under a desk) and see if a matching undelivered package was still in Buell possession. That may have been prior to a major crash of the site here and may no longer be searchable. I don't remember the name of the individual and wondered if in fact the rumored storage space might actually be at another facility apart from EastTroy. I'm still wanting to remove the bodywork from my S2 and check for various scribblings and notations this winter. I need to do that anyway to reinforce the fairing some to repair some stress cracks from the tire-chunk episode. Will also probably be doing a fork seal replacement, as noted by one of the internals during the 20th event as he looked over the bike. Will also be doing the front engine isolator at the same time along with possibly a few other non-visible things and maybe a visible one for a potential project of sorts. All I know is that at the time it sounded like someone found some stuff and put the indirect word out that they might be available to current owners provided that current owners identified themselves. |

Mike, not long after i got the BLURR, i discovered that affixed to the left underside of the tank skin was a small build sheet, whereon several people had "checked off" on various inspections during the build process. it was very cool to find something like this, as you can imagine, and i carefully peeled it off and mounted it on some mat board. i must say, it brought a puzzled smile to my face when i realized that the FINAL inspection had never been signed off -- yep, THAT particular space was still blank. three months later at Blue Groove, when i met Erik for the first time, i showed him the build sheet and asked him if HE would mind signing off my Thunderbolt. (i pointed this out to him, of course, in front of about 100 other Buell owners, and it's the only time i've ever seen him red-faced and at a loss for words ) he replied, "Um, Ferris, like, so, er, maybe I should actually inspect it before I sign it off?", which brought down the house. anyway, he signed off my bike, i got a great photo of him doing so, and both items are proudly displayed with the rest of my Buell treasures you know, it's easy enough to sniff around the internet and find a few people who are down on Buell for this or that, but i wouldn't trade my Buell experiences for the world. EVERY TIME I'm out on the S2, I'm marveling at the way it moves through a corner. Rock solid, no twitches and then I roll on the throttle and start thinking how nice it would feel to have the new XB12 fuel injected motor spinning up... ...aahhhh, the best of two worlds |

I've had the tank off the M2 many times, as well as the rest of it's bodywork and various parts as it's been the tinker bike to date. The S2 has been a rider and has needed little beyond oil and filter and gas. The M2's been a rider with the majority of the work being voluntary for the most part, just so someone doesn't think it isn't. In any case I think I'll loosen a few S2 screws this week and see what I can see. It's a 1994 construction so who knows what's under there. Hmmm, I wonder if Spidey is still looking up original purchaser info on these for people. Could be interesting. |

Rex...shouldn't your VIN be S3000820 and not 53000820? Wasn't there a few S2s with incorrect VINs? DAve |

Ferris, the only scribbling is on the inside of the air cleaner cover; if memory still serves me, it's the name of the gentleman who owned the bike prior to the owner whom I purchased from. The original owner is an employee at Ukes HD/B in Kenosha. Just a guess on my part, but they probably wrote his name on the parts so they didn't get lost when the motor was given a 'Lightning' upgrade and race kitted. After riding the DucSS, the more forward lean has become a bit more comfortable and I'm wanting rear sets(blasphemy!) for the S2. If I'm not working the gears, my feet just seem to stretch for the passenger pegs. But, I do appreciate that more upright position around town especially with all the low end grunt. Fortunately, I know two very good mechanical engineers with a good tool shop...stand by Absolutely fascinating tale going here... |

"Location: MILW.WI." What's his mailing address? I could swing by and pick them up for you and ship them right out this week. Would also be nice to see what one looks like in real life. I've seen a rat, and have dealt with warf rats, would like to see a sig series package someday. Anyway, offer is open, ping me an address and I'll make him a polite friendly visit. Or maybe I'll mention I'm in the area and am interested in his latest offering and see if I can arrange a meet. |

if i'd join the digital revolution i could show you guys what my "build sheet" looks like, but a verbal will have to do. it's obviously a bodywork document, about 2-1/4 inches wide by about 3-1/2 inches tall, with three columns and these headings across the top: "Dept.", "Name", and "Shift Date". the 1st row says: "RTM" (preprinted), "3rd JB" (handwritten), and "8-1" (handwritten). row 2: "Trim", someone's initials/illegible, maybe "KS", and "8/1". row 3: "Bodyshop", someone's initials/illegible plus "April 400" and "Shop 320". row 4: "Paint", blank space, blank space. row 5: "Wetsand Buff", blank space, blank space. and row 6: "Inspect", "Erik Buell" (handwritten) FB |

Court: I'm smellin a rat too . How could this person have come to possess several of these packages?? Is is possible that they are fake? , either way ,if this person has more of them he could potentially profit well from this , it sounds like several of us did not receive packages , some having purchased bikes used and are now wanting to track down the collectable stuff to go with them. I have a theory on what happened to mine , the first S2T arriving at the dealership ,was snatched back by the distributor here for use on the demo truck , a second S2T was shipped to replace it , meanwhile I had purchased an S1 ( still got it ). The second S2T , came from another dealer , I think ???? but not 100% sure , It then sat on the showroom floor till 1998 , THEN I bought it. My S2T sat around in the showroom for a year and a half ,allowing the commemorative stuff to "go missing" . So where could the "package" have been stored during that time ?? Thanks for helping with tracking down some of this stuff and matching up the bikes / owners with the correct package. Hey FB : Mine had that checklist and I have seen a few others too , I was at the buell plant in 97 , at the time I was attending a Buell chassis course in Milwaukee . We were given a tour and shown the entire build process , a great deal of work to build a set of bodywork ! , lots of scrap lying on the floor too. It appeared to be organized kaos to me , the air was thick with stench of resins and solvents , I thought as I left that department , those poor bastards have to breath this shit all day . It also appeared that they could not build body work quick enough , based on the many bikes sitting parked , completed , except for plastic. Here's one of my favourite pics that I snapped that day.

Actually there is a FABULOUS story (that includes the two drunks who have been the only two persons to breech Buell security in pursuit of purloined bikes)...look closely at the picture, think, digest info and....oh yeah..remind me to tell you some time. (has to do with Brankin, Nate and Des..look closer) |

Just let me know when you'll be up this way for trailer shopping. As long as the weather is snow/salt free and the bikes are assembled and I'm home and you don't mind a house in the midst of being moved into and concurrently being remodeled and you give me at least a short notice and we're not off on some family stuff, an S2 ride can most likely be arranged. And since two of the three inlaw families have bikes a bit of an interruption in that area just might be workable as well. Saturday would work in the afternoon sometime, Sunday has some doin's going on, Friday afternoon is almost always good. Otherwise it will have to wait until December. There is the BrewCityBRAG dinner sometime in early December that I might have to warm the bike tires up for that might also work well. And a bribe? For what? No charge. |

Mike . . . .. er, I hesitate greatly to ride someone elses scoot this time of year, but I'll hold ya to the offer next year when the leaves and salt are off the road . . . . grandad's hunting instructions were explicit . . .don't shoot it if you won't eat it . . . .I've expanded it to don't ride it if you can't afford to buy it (specially sue to stoopid low speed get offs in crappy conditions) |
