Ferris, I echo your thanks. My son finished Navy basic last month and is now in BESS at Groton CT. A very sincere salute and hand shake to all the Vets that preceeded him in service to their country. A bowed head and heartful prayer for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks to ALL for serving and protecting this great land. Brad - Proud Navy parent.

You all realize, of course, that we are training another generation of Americans in war. The conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and their surrounding environs will go on for years to come. Our children and grandchildren will come of age during this period and may well serve in arms. One thing we should do to show our concern and appreciation is write our political representatives and make sure they understand our future veterans will need the same care; emotional, financial and medical that was promised to our past veterans without compromise. God bless all in harms way |

Kevyn you're right about the promises . . .let's hope that our government's, er, less-than-wonderful track record in this regard improves the treatment this generation of veterans receives . . . we have a long and shameful history of honoring our folks in uniform when they are needed, and forgetting them when they are not . . .. |

....I'll echo what Kevin said about taking care of the personel...current and past. I'll also add that I believe we need to build our total force numbers back up especially in active duty. Maybe not as much as cold war era force numbers but we need more active duty. The Guard and Reserves are taking on a huge tasking. DAve |

"Guard and Reserves are taking on a huge tasking." Note that changing the retirement age of 60 to 55 for Guardsmen and Reservists was voted out on partisan lines. I was surprised to find out it was the Republicans who said no. In Dover, we get a free dinner at Golden Corral on Veteran's Day. Gotta love this country! |
