So I'm coming to a stop light and I see an R6 tryng hard to get up there with me. He pulls up and I give him the head nod. He starts revving his engine and poppin the clutch. I tried to ignore him as I'm a newer rider. Anyway he pissed me off. Light changes and I hit it, not to hard at first (had the wheel come up once, scarry) I shift into 2nd and don't see him next to me. Pop into 3rd and look back. Holly sh54t he's way back there all tucked in trying to catch me. I stop at the next light and he catches me and say's I guess those things are fast. I know straight lines aren't suppossed to count but I've been on cloud 9 all day. Just thought I'd share.

0-60 you'll beat him off the line. After that he'll start to pull on you. Nice work!

Unless you know the ability or mindset of the rider then comparisons are pretty meaningless. I remember us beating a Ducati 998 race bike with a pretty stock XB9R racer in 2003, but wouldn't dream to think that the XB is a faster bike. The nut on the handlebars makes quite a lot of difference to performance ; )

Last spring my friend bought a new R6 and we were going out for wings. We were stopped at a red light, he starts reving it up, I know know right away he wants a piece of jessie. So light turns green, I had the perfect launch and smoked the crap out of him. For a while I had like 5 bike lengths on him but the further we got he was almost in, or around my tail.(probably a 1/4 mile long run we did.

One night after a bike night, a brand new R1 ended up beside me at a light. He revs to the limiter. I look over and blip the throttle letting the Special Ops pipe growl. He looks at me and grins, while revving again. He gets into what looks like a race crouch, slowly bring his idle up. The light turns green and he's off like a freaking bullet. I just take off as normal, letting him go. We get to the next light, and I see him laughing wildly, all the while revving and revving his bike, he tucks again, light goes green and off he goes again! This time he's interrupted by some blue lights. This time I'm laughing.
Moral, never do such things when near a place that holds a bike night.

This is true, but it more satisfying to know that you're faster than the tool on the bike rather than the bike itself.

I once smoked a guy through some moderate twisties. He was on a newer GSXR 600 ('05 or something), and I was on a 2004 Sportster.

I gotta agree with Trojan on this... While I may occassionally ride fast on the street, I'll save stupid fast for the track!!!

+1 to Glitch. I have a friend that spent 3 days in jail because of a "racing" conviction (he wasn't, just being stupid catching up with a buddy).

The state trooper interpreted "I was trying to catch up with him" as "I was racing him", and restated it for the record as "suspect admitted racing", and it ended up in front of an already pi$$ed off judge, and his lawyer didn't help much.

The net effect was 3 days in jail.

Well done, Glitch! Further proof that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and enthusiasm. Not that you're old... I'm just sayin', is all. OK, I'll shut up now.

I know the local R6's dont like when I lead the rides... could be that last turn off the road that heads down dirt...
It is one of my favorite initiations to the racer boys that are all about throttle and straight line. See ya at the tavern boys, the long way adds another half hour to your trip.

I'm not perfect, I love showboating the sounds of my bike, just not the speed. Noise violations are cheaper than speeding violations.

For us that can't leave at 14,000 RPM with the perfect clutch feed, the Buell is easier to launch and will get out front first.

The R6 is just harder to launch, but an excellent rider will win a drag race, or any other type of race, on the R6.

If you don't believe me, PM Ortegakid or Dago, both of which used to own XBs and R6s.

It was a newer r6. To be honest I think they're nice bikes, not as nice as a Buell...and everybody has one or a gixxer. I hope to be able to go to the track next summer and take care of my speed bug. Expect lots of questions if I do.

I have to work alot hard to go faster on a I4 600cc. It might be just me, but the buells are just easier to ride.

newer r6's are fine scoots: light, nimble, smooth, but they aint got enuf soul for me.

When I turn my buell on, it returns the favor.

Yeah, shifting sucks. Probably what I like best about twins.

I flew to San Fransicko a couple of weeks ago and rode my buddy's TDM 850 while he rode his Adventure. The TDM hardly needed any shifting either, great bike, many of the same good twin engine characteristics of my Buell.

I pulled up next to a ZX9R a few years ago. We happened to have several successive red lights on short stretches of road. I embarrassed him 3 times in a row...I could tell the guy was getting irate...then the road opened up...

I've seen Harley's win stoplight races against sportbikes, too...most have it until the next block.

I had a ZX9R new in 1998.

If you beat him, it ain't the bike, it's the rider.

Buells are very easy to leave the line with, and launching the ZX9R actually takes some skill, feeding the clutch at 8 or 9 grand.

I would be far more consistent off the line on my Buell than on the Ninja.

However, put Ricky Gadson on both bikes, and the Buell will not win the drag race, not even close.

congrats... nothing like being on a sleeper. I like laughing at the guys who obviously don't have a clue. Stop light to Stop light I'll take on anyone.
