All I know many who knew Greg (either virtually or face to face) will not be able to be at the Visitation or Service due to distance and the like. If you'd like to leave a few words, or just your name on a post, I'll print em all out Tuesday afternoon and take em to the Funeral Home -- the loving thoughts, good Tiki, and well wishes from strangers often puts smiles on the faces of the family -- we all lead multifaceted lives, and though Dana (Greg's partner) knows some of us, she doesn't know all of us, and I'm thinkin our names and thoughts for Greg's loved ones would be a blessing . . . . |

John: I did not know Greg personally but there exists a keen friendship among those wonderful souls who, aboard motorcycles, have elected to see the world a bit closer, to feel the wind and smell the freshly mowed grass. Motorcyclist spend their days celebrating life. When we loose a friend the pain echoes around the world. Please share Vickie and my thoughts with Greg's family as we remember them in our thoughts an prayers. Court Canfield New York City |

One of those rare times when I am truley speech less I will always remeber him coming up to me anytime I pulled into the lot at any number of Homecomings with a cold beer and a smile on his face, knowing this was the one time a year we could hang out and share a cold one together. Ride in peace brother! Love ya! Spidey |

Reading through some of Greg's posts here, it's easy to see that he was a kind, fun, and thoughtful man, a very good friend to have for sure. I'm happy to say that it was no online act either as Greg's genuine good nature was clearly evident during our meetings at and around the Road America paddock and in the parking lot at the hotel this past July. Greg will be sorely missed. Thanks John (Bomber) and Rocco (Rocketsprink) for this. Blake Kilgore, Texas

Never met the guy, but it's easy to see the kind of man he was based on the friends we shared. I'll be thinking of him while I'm on the bike today. Pegs down, my friends. |

I only knew Greg for about a year. But he always had a smile on his face. He was always very polite when my daughter Ariana was chasing around through his and Rocco's pits at Blackhawk Farms. It was an absolute honor to know him and to be able to chase him around the racetrack. He will be missed. There will be a huge hole in Buell Alley this weekend at Blackhawk. Dana, I know we never met, but if there is anything myself or my family can do, please don't hesitate to ask. You have my families prayers, and our deepest condolences. Sincerely, Ben, Ann, Trae, Olivia, and Ariana Schmidt Appleton, Wisconsin |

every time we met he always seemed to be in an entirely to chipper of a mood, lol. i suppose that might have to do with the fact that every time we bumped into each other it was something to do with bikes and riding. i know i for one will miss seeing him at homecoming or running down the back roads at the slimey crud run. Dear Dana, Although I did not know Greg that well, I truly appreciate every moment that I did spend with him over the last year. Always quick with a story or word of advice for a fellow rider. And always with a smile! I did get to spend a couple of hours with Greg on May 10th at Blackhawk-the day I took my race certification. Greg had just tons of good advice and encouragement for me, things I will never forget. He will truly be missed this weekend at BHF. I would also like to extend the condolences of the Hal's H-D/Buell staff. Several of us here knew Greg and raced with him. In particular, Dan Bilansky and Dean Hageman wish to extend their deepest sympathies. Ride free, brother...until we meet again. His pic looked familiar and I read some of his posts that Blake threaded (very classy way to let us remember his postings). I did meet him at Homecoming I believe. I think this was his bike. Super nice guy, we got to yapping about carbon fiber and how if my bike was down in Chicago, I'd get the cold air induction holes treated "unkindly"!

All A few of us were lucky enough to be able to attend the Service for Greg this morning -- Dana and Greg's entire family asked me to thank you all for your good wishes, prayers, and, for those close enough to come to the visitation, your presence. If one of the measures of a life is the number of people who gather to say goodbye, Greg was cared for beyond his knowledge, I think. I have no idea where I read the following, but it's way too eloquent for me to have made up . . . Friends are family you get to choose. Greag is family. Again, thanks for all of your good thoughts and prayers, folks. bomber |

Seeing all the photo's last night with his Family, and the amount of people there made me realize something. Although I knew him only briefly in the grand scheme of things, I now know why I liked the guy so much. He was plain and simple, a great guy, hard worker, family man and someone that I am proud to call my friend. It's hard to say goodbye. That's why I won't. I have a feeling I'll seem him again. Sooner or later. |

oh no...... i just found this thread. through, randomly, steve mackay's flickr upload of his tribute picture. i am speechless and sad. greg spent quite a bit of time emailing me when i was injured back in 2006. he brightened my day when i was stuck on the couch. we had all these funny jokes about the power of vicodin...and he continued to stay in touch through the years occasionally, was so excited about getting himself a trackbike. i am thankful to have gotten to "know" him a bit, hope his family strength through this, and wish greg no more pain and lots of fast bikes wherever he is. rest in peace, greg. sadly, D |

3 years after the fact, I just chanced upon this thread. I grew up across the street from Greg's house on Custer Ave. We were very good friends during our early to mid teens. I remember Christmas Day, seeing that new Honda QA 50 under the Christmas tree. A few years later, Greg got an Elsinore from Midway Honda. I was there with him and his dad. Then there were the many trips we made to a place we used to call "The Gulley" or the "100 Footer," a wooded area somewhere between Lyons, McCook and Summit. It was very popular among dirt bikers, very underground too, and illegal. But if you were an urban kid and wanted to practice your riding, it was the only place to go. Sometimes Greg would let me ride his Elsinore. A few years later, I would go with Greg to Byron where he continued to develop his riding skills. It was great to watch him grow as both a person and a rider. By 18, I was in college and lost touch with Greg. Haven't seen him since, or his sister, Kim, whom I also knew very well in that we were in the same grade and class throughout grammar school (Lincoln in Brookfield). So it's been a good 25 years since I've seen Greg, but I can tell you this... All the comments are accurate. Best to you Greg! John Balla |
