Hey, I'm new to this group. I'm considering trading my NEW Ducati GT1000 for a Buell XB12Ss. I was wondering if the Buell riders here think I'm crazy? I don't like the Ducati for the following reasons: 1 the suspension sucks - especially the front - not adjustable, oversprung and underdamped 2 the engine only sounds good if you are really into it over 4 thousand rpms - pipes to make it sound good are too expensive and not many options 3 it's very sensitive to ride - throttle on or throttle off, no in between - this combined with the really sensitive brakes make full concentration required at all times I ride on rough roads to and from work in Miami 15 miles. Getting to work is enough trouble without a tiring bike to add to the aggrevation. I've read a few comments about the buell xb12 having the same slow speed roughness, but the one I rode wasn't nearly as bad as my Ducati I'd really like to hear some opinions before I take the plunge - thanks |

Welcome to the board. Trading the Ducati for the Buell is an excellent idea, especially the model you own, which is pretty much as you describe it. One of the great features of this board, is the ease with which a post can be removed. Since you already posted this question on this topic, you might want to delete it. You can do that by simply clicking on the box with the red x in the upper right hand corner of your post, and it will go away. |

I'd see if you can consign or sell it privately... Your going to lose either way but your really going to eat it on a trade in.. Personally I wouldn't buy a 2008... I'd be more inclined to go with a 2006-2007 XB12ss Good Luck |

No offense Jortman, but it sounds like you did not do your homework when you bought the Ducati. Ducatis are not cruisers, neither are Buells. You said "full concentration required at all times"? That should be your mantra anytime you are riding a motorcycle. As far as finding a comfortable motorcycle, take as many as you can on test rides. Good luck. |

Sounds like you need to shop for a sport-tourer. |

The Buell does a nice job of Sport Touring, just gotta think outside the company coloring lines to make it happen
have done several 500 mile days on her. (the bike) |

Sounds like you need to shop for a sport-tourer. I have a sportbike (XB12R). I have sat on it for over 500 miles and over 11 hours in a single day. I'd say that's a tour. |

I,ve got one of each a 98 S1W and 02 998 mono. I love them both but the Buell is my favorite. I waited 9 years to get it and it is staying!!!!!!!!!!! |

I've done almost 1500 miles over 3 days on an S1 with rearsets and clip-ons, as well as several hundreds of miles days. A tourer the miles does not make! |

I test rode a Ducati Monster S2R 1000 and a XB12Ss in 2006. I loved the motor on the Ducati, but the XB12Ss was much more comfortable too me. However, the ergo's on your GT 1000 look like they would be at least as comfortable as the XB12Ss. I loved the looks of both bikes, and the performance capabilities were as much as I cared to test, so I went with the XB and I love it. Now, while I think that the XB could be more comfortable than your Ducati, that doesn't mean it's a Goldwing. It is a naked street fighter and it vibrates, and there is no real protection from wind blast. The Beull Ulysses, and the new Ulysses XT offer this and more. And on a side note, the XBSTT is the most underated bike in the XB line up that might be the perfect mix of what you are looking for. You should try and make it to a Buell Inside Pass track day. You could test ride all of these Buell models using Buell's gas and Buell's tires for @ $175. Bring the GT 1000. |

Don't forget that the '09 Ss is getting the (now discontinued) TT suspension. Best of both worlds? I had a Duc 750 Monster that I really liked a lot, but had the same complaint about the non-adjustable front suspension. Traded it for an XB12R. No regrets. Test ride them all and I'm sure you'll find the one that's best for you. Buell parts are notoriously cheap as well certainly cheaper than that Duc's. |

I actually fancy the GT1000. It looks beautiful, but I wouldn't think that the base suspension would be as good as one that is fully adjustable particularly with my corn fed dimensions. I could see that particular model being slightly more of a challenge than other Ducati models. I think you would find the SS particularly an 09 with the STT suspension much handier for your uses. As others have mentioned, I wouldn't trade the Ducati. I think you will do a much better job selling it personally. I find the Ducati more visually stimulating than the Buell, but only slightly. The permagrin induced squint makes the bike hard to see, and so while on the bike you will hardly notice the appearance. |

I like to think of myself as down to earth and open minded. You won't catch me getting into arguments on here, everyone thinks differently and has their own opinions. Mine are no better than yours. Having said that, how in the name of all that is holy can you think a Buell looks better than that Sport 1000??? Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the Buells but there is good looking then there is downright beautiful. You just made baby jesus cry. My hypocrisy is done here. |

Something about the Ducati that just pisses me off... my son just had a tech glitch with his new 1098R. A bolt of something got caught in the drive sprocket coming out of the paddock.. Bent the shaft, screwed the trans and possibly cracked the case... could be 10 grand in damage to a 39K bike. Not that I am against Ducati but this means we don't get to do the three days at VIR this week. My Buell just keeps on ticking but every time we ride, the Ducati seems to break... last time it was on his old 1098S... that thing just quit and wouldn't start. Give me Buell or give me Harley... they look great but seem to break to easy, what good is 186 HP sitting in the shop waiting for parts? |

If I had a better local dealer I would be on a 1098 instead of an 1125R (I would have bought the Duc before the 1125R was announced). Love their retro line! I think my dad needs a Sport1000 (so I can ride it!) |
