I'm coming up on that time again, fork oil service. In the past I have just used the standard factory oil (type E?) and was just wondering if there is an oil that anyone would recommend that is a little better performance wise. I'm not looking for longer lasting, the change intervals I'm fine with but something that makes everything work better and smoother. | ||

This is very similar to the "best engine oil" question. The one you use in the proper grade is best. If you seek an improvement in suspension action get 'em revalved/reworked/resprung to your liking at a competent shop. | ||

I knew a guy that would make his own fork oil by mixing 30w motor oil with automatic transmission fluid until it was 'just right'. Don't do that. | ||

Don't do that. Years ago when I was still a field plumber, I had a apprentice with me on his first day of his new career. We were dispatched to a sweatshop in the nyc garment district to repair a toilet waste Lead bend in the "employee restroom" (more like outhouse!) I Grimaced as I looked at the rotted piece of crap( no pun intended) in front of me and quickly grabbed a couple of bar solders a torch and proceeded to Rube Goldberg the thing so we could get out of that death trap before it caught fire or something. My apprentice by the look in his eyes was immensely impressed with my Lead wiping skills and said "wow!" as I set the toilet back on the waste. I said " you like that job I did?" He said he did. I then turned to him and said "WELL DON'T EVER, EVER,EVVVVERRRR DO THAT OR YOUR ASS IS FIRED!  We ride together once in a moon, I always let him lead.  | ||

I use Maxima Racing fork oil in my XB9R race bike. Seems to smooth things out a bit better than the Harley stuff. Schmitty | ||

Thanks for the pointers so far. the thought of making my own "special blend" never crossed my mind, with good reason. I know there is no substitute for getting them re-valved and really set up for me, I'm just looking for some oil thats a little bit better then stock while I;m in there anyway cause in true Bueller form I cant leave anything well enough along. | ||

I put new seals in mine a while back and used Belray 15 wt. Working great! Got plenty of 5, 10 and 15 around from "blending" for the KX. |
