Been using for two years best cordless out there. They even say battery powered is same strength as wired. Google radar detector traveler 2 for that. Rammount.com for magnetic base set up about $60.00 and earpiece was at walmart a year ago. it says JABAR on it. Comfortable at 80-100 MPH even. Can clip to shirt. Save a life and yours they are out to get us!

Unfortunately, I meet Johnny Law about once a month. The bright orange attracts alot of attention (from people that actually pay attention) so the athletic stance, spirited pep and loud pipe will get me Whoopdeed more than a bit. Often it is a license, registration check, endorsement check, and a What kind of bike is that ?!?!? Most of the times it is a slow it down out there, type thing, or dont have too much fun on the commute, the rest of us are suffering type thing. And in the last two years of Buell ownership, it has been a ticket once. Did he have me? yep, Do I hold it against him? nope. Are there bigger fish to fry? most definitely. But handle with situation with respect and it goes a long way. The ticket was reversed later Had I made a stink about it,and got confrontational, I guarantee it would not have been so pleasant. Having worked with Law Enforcement on several ocassions, that "PIG" attitude will catch up to you, Be safe out there, ride often, drive friendly. The blue lights are not always against you. I am very greatfull for their assistance and prompt arrest of the A$$hat that ran me off the road last year. So it all comes around. |

Being a Judge doesnt mean your an angel either. WE have one here in fort wayne that just got his 6 DWI in the last 5 years and is still on the bench.......but not for long. Id say that this judge is a sick PIG too that should have gone to prison along time ago. Are their any judges around these parts too... i really dont care. I dont expect the cop that pulled me over last for the only reason of riding around at 1200 am on a sat night was doing his job either. Soon as I hit town I decided to find out how fast I could get pulled over doing NOTHING. Only took ten minutes, would have been faster but in my case I got one that looked a little inbred. May have been a factor. No need to LIE and Talk down to be mr jackass. (Message edited by mmmi_grad on July 26, 2008) |

I don't think I've ever been pulled over for nothing... My last was for a loud exhaust, I got it thrown out. The one before that, I was speeding. Before that? Loud pipes on my dad's Harley. I doubt that he pulled you over for no reason at all. Maybe you looked suspicious... Maybe it was the big honking radar detector on your handlebars. People are people. Some shouldn't be in a position to decide someone else's fate |

I thought name-calling was frowned upon, here. Even in the toughest"outlaw" m/c circles, I never hear cops referred to as "pigs"... Unless you say it to their faces, don't refer to anyone by stupid, rude names. When one saves your a$$, someday, maybe you'll figure it out |

Hmmmm Let's see... The last "pig" that helped me actually gave the guy, who apparently was really "out to get me" and rear ended me, two tickets for said "getting me" one for reckless and one for failure to stop in a safe distance... Stupid pigs! Hey here's an Idea! If you wanna play, Pay. |

I wish I'd of seen this earlier -- oh well. Just like every other profession on the planet there's some bad apples in law enforcement, but the overwhelming majority are great people performing a thankless task. Spidey sums it up nicely. When a Police Officer goes home at night he takes off his uniform and no one would know he is an Officer however an wears that hat 24/7 I will call it as I see it but I don't ever refer to cops as pigs. Even though to most of the country 9/11 was not as close as it was to the tri state and va/md/dc people I and alot of other people around the WORLD not just here will not forget what the Police and Fireman did during and after that tragedy. |

Its all about revenue generation... I work in the Traffic industry, a number of cities across the country have stopped/pulled red light and speed cameras.. There not profitable anymore... I just wish the politics at hand would let more officers do actual police work than revenue generation. |

Sooooo, I should buy a radar detector for what maybe $100-$200, (Valentine's are in the $500 range) a RAM mount for $60 and a blue tooth ear piece for another $40? Yes there are $40 detectors available, but just how good are they if they are only $40-ya gets what ya pay for. Quick addition totals $200, using a $100 price tag on the detector. Hmm, the last ticket I got was $155, for 19 mph over, in my truck. First ticket in about 2-3 years. Knocking on wood, I haven't got one on my bike. To me it's easier to just stick with the posted limit plus "maybe" 5 or 6. Otherwise, you just make yourself a target |

I've got multiple speed awards issued by LEO's in the US and Europe -- deserved every one of them. I've been warned and let go more often than I've collected paper though. My dad was a LEO for 20+ years after 20+ in the Army. My daughter's a deputy sheriff in our county. I love, literally, LEOs. |

FYI cordless radar detectors are junk... every one of them... Radar detectors are relative powerhogs. Cordless models get around this by cycling the sensors. This greatly reduces your time to react. That is the reason there has never been an official cordless Valentine One. My view on radar detectors is they are all worthless. A good percentage of this countries LEO's use instant on radar, or lidar. No detector will save you from that. Only common sense riding will save you. Do not exceed the speed limit in areas were you have limited sight lines. Never speed approaching an on ramp/off ramp, or an over pass. Look for turn outs along the road way. If it is a new unfamiliar area, watch what the locals do. If they crawl along at the speed limit, there is probably a reason. |

1st of all a an Police Officer in the close area, I would like to say, it is unfortunate when people have attitudes like this. I normally don't pull over riders unless I want to talk to them about there bike, or if they are being really stupid. However seeing a radar detector on a bike would probably force me to write my first ticket especially if they are kind of arrogant, (which in this case I am sure someone was.) Just know we are not all bad. I have done this job for a long time and it just goes to say we can never win. We are always ridiculed no matter what we do. If we are speeding to get to a call of some importance we get complained upon, how ever when we stop someone for speeding we are not doing our jobs properly because they were not wrong. We get asked questions while we are trying to eat, but if we have to ask questions during their dinner we are rude. We are loafing and worthless if we stop to get a drink and take a quick break after running from call to call, but its ok for everyone else to take a coffee break or a smoke break every hour on their job. We get complained on for raising our voice when we need to but are supposed to sit and let you call us every name in the book. So it goes to say for the most part its a thankless profession however I still enjoy going to work every day because I know in my head and in my heart what I do matters and if I can just make one person happy and say thanks for the day then my job is complete. I apologize for the rant its just frustrating when I am doing something I enjoy, (my job and my hobby) and then I read post bashing us because we are doing our job. I usually take it with a grain of salt, but like I said this kind of got me in both places, my work and love for riding. I will stop, but I feel better. If I was out of line then I apologize. |

The only speeding ticket I've ever gotten was from an officer who followed me for .3 miles and matched my speed. No lasers, no radar, no nuthin'. Sar - I agree with you - I have a lot of repsect for most officers. I go on a "they're cool unless they prove themselves otherwise" mantra, and so far I can only recall 2 out of the probalby 10 or so I've dealt with on various occasions through my life. The vast majority have been exceptionally nice and understanding considering the circumstances, interested in what I had to say at accident scenes, sported a good sense of humor, etc. Wrap that up with the fact they risk their lives to protect ours and they get a big nod from me. I normally don't pull over riders unless I want to talk to them about there bike However, I do have a little problem with that statement... sounds like an abuse of power to me. not really abuse, but I'm sure you can get where I'm coming from. Lots of folks ride their bikes for more than just pleasure (i.e. errands, commuting, etc.). I would be kind of upset if an officer stopped me and forced me to be late for an important morning meeting with my boss because he merely wanted to chat with me about my bike. While being pulled over for this reason is a releif, being pulled over at all is an extremely stressful situation for most folks. |

I have seen dozens of officers on patrol. Most have seen me exceeding the speed limit. I'm not riding recklessly, but I am in excess of the posted speed limit. Only once did I have one slow down like he was going to pull a U-Turn. I was running about 15-18 over. I knew I was speeding. I actually went ahead and pulled over on the side of the road and was looking at his brake lights in the rear view mirror. He came to a complete stop. And then kept going. He was looking to see if I was going to run I'm sure. I didn't. He kept going. It was cool. He knew I knew I was caught, but he didn't pull the trigger on the ticket. I usually rack up 2-3 tickets per year. I drive about 30,000 miles per year. I have never gotten a ticket on my motorcycle (knock on wood). I don't begrudge any officer ENFORCING the law. I am breaking the law. My last ticket was a 93 in a 70. Technically, it's an offense that could get me a ride to the pokey and my car impounded. I was respectful. I held my CCP in my left hand and my license and insurance card in my right. I held my hands on the wheel the entire time and explained before he asked that I had a weapon in the vehicle that was loaded but not chambered. I was professional. He was professional. I still got a ticket, but it was completely my fault. There are very few really bad apples in the law enforcement community. I've only met one. Ever. Referring to ALL as "pigs" as justified by a VERY small minority is silly. You play. You pay. |

Xl1200r, I guess I should have clarified that statement. I don't turn my lights on and actually pull them over to talk, I try to pull up next to them and ask them if they have time to talk. My bad choice of words. |

I have nothing but good to say about the police. When I got a ticket I had earned it. I never met a cop who LIKED paperwork and when they write a ticket it's paperwork. Show a little respect to and for them, After all YOU don't HAVE to wear a vest and carry a gun to work do you? And most of us don't have to think about somebody take a pot shot at us. |

No one forced me to be a biker but I can point to countless times I have suffered from being one . Sometimes its coming from cops. Sometimes its coming from people in general. Alot of times general people suck too. Im not asking anyone to cry me a river either!!! : ( Just pointing out the obvious. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which in this regard I respect fully. I do hope that you have more interaction with actual cops and not the ones you have encountered. Seems to me that the ones you deal with are in love with the idea of being a cop and have no idea what the job actually means which gives the rest of us a bad name. |
