Has anyone run Shinko Tires before? I'm curious if they are a decent tire. What model did you use? What was the tread life like? What was the cold/warm grip? What was the dry/wet grip? |

I've ran the 03 Stealth tires on an X1, includeing Novice level trackdays. Impressed by the price, not overly impressed by the tire. Cost vs. value was there, but I felt more comfortable/confident on Metzler's or Pirelli's. I noticed the front tire to be VERY sensitive to proper balancing when hitting triple digits. Grip seemed OK, but feedback was dull. Edit to answer your other q's best as I can: Model - 03 Stealth Tread life - Unknown. Only put ~800 miles on them before I sold the X1. Cold/Warm grip - Ok. Not "awe inspiring" but better than D205s. Dry/Wet gip - Avoided riding these tires in the rain. (Message edited by P_Squared on July 28, 2008) |

Ditch Finders IMHO they are not bad for drag racing cheap and no need for cornering. |

The reviews are pretty inconsistent. One reviewer will state that they're grate(!) supersport tires, one will state that they're crap and one will state that they are average... KneeSliders.com has the rear Strada in stock for $134.00, my rear is toast, but my front is fine. I guess I'll wait until the front is toast to try another tire. |

I'm running on a set of the Shinko Raven 009 sport touring tires. I might have 1500 miles on them now. I did take some dread depth measurements when I mounted them so I could monitor wear and estimate tire life after a few miles. I'll take some measurements tonight and report back. They were $170 for the pair delivered. IMHO they are a great tire for the price. I'm happy that I went with them over a set of the new Michelin Pilot Road 2's for $300 or even the PR's, which I had ran for over 35K miles. Of course tire Snobs will turn their noses up and act like they are too good for such a tire. |

Shinko tires as the infamous Tomahawk tires are hit or miss depending on who you speak with. Some state they are great for drag only and some have no issues with them in the twisties at all. I havent used Shinko tires but a few around here have and liked the performance but also stated that they were hesitant to push them as hard as the name brand tires. Tracker95 used the Tomahawks at Loudon and reported no issues at the time however once he moved on to Pilots he hasnt gone back. I have used the Tomahawks and find that they are much heavier but also have a huge amount of tread depth and last a while. Currently running the new Rosso tires and they stick like nothing I have ever had on a bike before, ebay for 265 shipped. If cost is an issue check the Tomahawks first as the compounds are more in line with the more well known manufacturers. |

I'm more than willing to pay for a good tire. I was just curious if the costs savings were worth it, they're rated to 168mph and are DOT approved. I actually think I'll just buy a new rear Strada. They're great in the rain, great on cold black top, grip great with my heavy ass on them (and suspension setup), and wear almost 8,000 miles on the rear (no burnouts, VERY few, small wheelies). |

got 4500 on the strada set on the 1125 and still looking good. minimal sign of flat spotting so far. i only got 2500 out of the corsa 3's to the rear cord. i haven't had the strada on the 1125 in much rain, but the strada on the s2 from a couple of years ago stuck good then in the rain and is still on the bike. only put about 3000 on it in the last couple of years. tim |

Smoke, I put on the Stradas a month before badness. Even after 1,000 miles of straight line riding to Badness (and back)and the few hundred miles riding at Badness didn't flat'em. I've been happy, but I'm never opposed to improving my position in life. |

They make a variety of different models and compounds. Been doing it for a long time too. Hard as a bulls forehead, right through to track slicks. I've used and reviewed the 05 sports model in Kiwi Rider. They are about 70% of the cost of Pirelli here and I found them to be fine as road tyres. For the models I tested, If you want to go extreme knee down i'd pay the extra 30%, but for a normal use UJM type road tyre they are quite reliable, reasonably long wearing and cheap. I'd stick 'em on my Thunderbird again. |

I have the Raven 009s on my Uly, for a little over 6k miles. There may be another 2k left on them. For the money, I would buy Shinko Ravens again.. I paid $154.88 to my front door from RideNow.com. They grip fine for my riding style which is faster than squid; but slower than "rickyracer." Shinko bought Yokohama and supposedly the recipe for the rubber compounds and tread are all Yokohama... That's just what I heard. |

"Wearing Well" implies a hard compound, which implies less traction. A softer compound gives you greater traction at the expense of tire life. It's all compromises. Your choice. Only you know how hard you corner and if you REALLY need the stickiest compounds available. |

I like that we have pictures of the hardest tire they make with no chicken strips and a testimony of a tread life in excess of 7,000 miles. I'll be buying another Strada this weekend, but those are on my list when I need to replace both tires at once. |

My bike mechanic uses Shinko on his Sportsters, he said they use old Yokohama molds. |

....but just a different rubber compound. I have asked this question several times about tires, and find that it is really up to you the rider as stated before. If you grind knees and bang the rev limiter coming out of a corner, do you want ' the cheapest rubber' being the only thing between you and the road or the gaurd rail. That being said, longer life tires use harder compounds, which inturn gives up some traction, specially in wet conditions. I can't wait to try out the new Bridgestone's with the 3/5 layer structure. Just waiting for the price to be best for the taking. |

Shinko bought Yokohama and supposedly the recipe for the rubber compounds and tread are all Yokohama... No recipe for a decent bike tyre though. Yokohama were never at the forefront (or even mid pack!) of the motorcycle tyre market. |
