Since I'm on my 5th XBOX covered under warranty, I'd say go with the PS3.
I love XBOX when it works. The "red ring of death" sucks. Had it three times now. If the online play is as good as XBOX, I'd go with the PS3

i cant stand the sony controllers so it was xbox for me, and the wii for when i have a lot of people over. Nothing beats playing the wii while your drunk! |

Actually no, my woman friend (non-blow up) will be visiting me tonight...I'm busy with Homecoming stuff tomorrow night. Then I head up to my lake home for the 4th. |

you guys with PS3, how do regular DVD's play on it, does it "upconvert"? I'm still trying to decide between a PS3 & 360
Dvd's at my house are pretty much limited to Baby Einstein. On the occasion my wife and I get a movie we get a Blue Ray from netflix. |

MS still covers the ring of death repair, regardless of warranty. Mine was purchased not long after they came out and ran fine until a few weeks ago. MS overnighted me a shipping box (paid shipping both ways) and said it would take 2 weeks.
I'll buy the next generation, no problem (just sold my original bought-the-first-day XBox to my brother in law and it still works great) |

oddsc. If using HDMI the PS3 will Upconvert a standard DVD (Looks good on the 720p LCD in my bedroom). If using Component cables the CSS spec prohibits upconverion of DVD content, so it will not.

GRID is the SHTUFF on a PC... I'm sure it's good on a console as well.
COD4 is a favorite.

I was Playing GTA4 last night, anyone ever try to do the jump over the E-way on the 3rd Island? you jump over a building and end up on a street.. I keep blowin tired when I land... of course it is always on the Ducati bike and I am at full throttle.. and he always stays on the bike.. yeah that is good TV |

I gave up on console systems when Halo 3 came out for 360 only. That just pissed me off. They put 1 and 2 on the original system, but if you want to finish the series, you gotta' buy a whole new system? Screw that. They won't get ANY more of my $$$ for that little stunt. I've gone strictly PC. I'm on a freebie RPG kick lately, namely Flyff (as Zephran) and Drift City (as Swordslinger), both totally free to download, and both very decent games. I bought Spore: Creature Creator in anticipation of the full Spore release in September... cool toy, but not much to do on it. It's like a set of organic Legos. The full game is gonna' rock, though!

I keep jumping the river from the third island to the middle island!! Problem is when I land it is on a park bench!! You can do back flips over the river!

2 things worth noting:
a - a PS3 will play Blue Ray (XBOX will not), which has become the standard for HD movies.
b - MANY HDTVs will upconvert on their own, so having an upconvertying DVD player may be redundant for you.
I started GTA4 last night... cool ass game. I already grabbed a couple cheat codes, so a number of motorcycles, boats, cars and helicopters are at my beck and call. including full health, armor, weapons and ammo 
Kind of neat when messing around - if I get in trouble with the cops, I can just get to water and grab a boat, or summon the helicopter and I'm off!
Still trying to play the game as intented though - it's fun taking chicks on dates and what not. |

I'd go PS3, but keep my XB360...there;s too many games that MicroSoft has to let it go.
I really believe that the 360 plays HD dvds and upconverts better than my Sony upconverting dvd player. |

Crap... just realized that using the cheats in GTA4 won't let me finish the game...

XL, I finished the game with cheats the other day?? Maybe I missed something.
Pickin up prostitutes is more fun than the dating, costs less and you get a better show.
After 3 lapdances in the strip club you get not 1 but 2 chicks!
Shooting pedestrians in the stomach will make some puke blood.
The police computer will give you access to criminals locations so you can kill them.
Man, I could go on and on. Try wathing TV for a while, you will laugh real good I promise. |

CoD4 (Best. Game. Ever.) on 360, gamertag Retcon
...though with the nice weather these days I don't spend much time indoors. If my 360 red-ringed on me (I'm still on my first one, only issues so far are the CD drive is louder these days) I don't know if I would really care until winter rolled around. I burnt out on PC years ago and I think I might be heading that way with consoles too -- though CoD4 made it fun again.
BTW, in some informal testing with some friends we found that many 360s run hotter and red-ring out when the have aftermarket coolers on them. None of us run them anymore because of this. Kinda ironic that the only thing hotter than a 360 is a 360 with an cooler on it.

I guess certain cheats are okay (summoning vehicles and such), but if you enter the full health/armor/guns/ammo cheat it doesn't let you finish a handful of missions.
Which cheats were you using? |

Heath/ guns. I was most of the way through the game(70%) before I started using them. I found that the cops were much harder to shake after the first time I entered them though. I only used the drop wanted level once before I finished. I have not summoned any cars though, they are easy enough to find. I was a murding prick in the game, if I had a choice to kill or let live, they died. |

You may have already completed the missions you can't do with that cheat. I'm barely into the game, so I still need to look at the completion list and figure out if I can do those ones ahead of time or something.
When you say "finished", do you get 100% completion? Or just finished the story line missions?
EDIT: I'm reading conflicting things. Using the cheats will keep you from completing some combination of the following achievements:
-Walk Free (Escape 4-star wanted level on foot)
-One Man Army (Survive 5 minutes of 6-star wanted lavel
-Clean the Mean Streets (Capture (kill) 20 criminals from police computer)
-Finish Him (10 counters in 4 minutes)
The health/weapons cheat is supposed to disable all of these, however I'm reading that people say it only disables them while you're working on the achivement (i.e., you can use the cheat before you start), and others have said they've used them during and still finished the acheivement. So I have no idea...

I am not 100%, I just finished the story line. I still have hitman missions I can go on, and can move dope for jamaicans, Steal cars for Brucie etc... |
