Motorcyclist Cited For Driving 144 MPH NEW YORK (AP) ― A motorcyclist clocked by state police driving 144 miles-an-hour in a 55 mile-an-hour zone in New York's Putnam County faces having his license suspended. The state police in Brewster said the motorcycle driven by 21-year-old David Puchalski, of Carmel, was stopped at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at I-84 in the town of Southeast. The driver was clocked going 89 miles-an-hour higher than the posted speed limit. The driver was freed pending a July 8th appearance in Southeast Court. State Police Sgt. Ted Daley said that speeding more than 40-miles-an-hour higher than the posted speed limit results in 11 points being charged against the driver's license, which automatically results in a suspension. |

That could have been me at that age, except my clapped out CB350 couldn't do much over 90mph downhill... with a tailwind. Lord knows what I would have done with anything faster when I was 21. |

Suspended license?! Hell, that warrants some jail time! NY sounds soft. ~SM |

I live in NY and have been told that you get jailtime for going either twice the posted limit or 100mph, whichever is slower. |

? It's on the officer's discretion... I have never heard of anyone in NY being housed for 100 +. I've been let go with a warning after being stopped for 100 + in NY |

I was locked up in the Colorado Springs jail in 1978 for 77MPH in a 45 zone. The HiPo did let me drive my car behind him to the police station but warned me about running.

This from today's Seattle Times: "The State Patrol pulled over a motorcyclist going 140 mph this morning on Highway 18. Troopers were monitoring the highway from the air when they spotted the motorcycle traveling eastbound far above the posted 55 mph speed limit. "The motorcyclist was also observed following other motorists at a close distance and making unsafe lane changes to pass traffic," troopers said. The 23-year-old motorcyclist from Bonney Lake was pulled over and admitted to traveling at high speeds ranging from 140 to 150 mph because he was late for work, said troopers. He did not have a motorcyclist license and was arrested." |

What did you guys do when you were in your 20s, ride Vespas? It is perfectly normal for a 20 something to ride fast on a regular basis. We used to hit 150 or 160 every weekend. Some of the guys I ride with now still do (I can't, I ride an XB). Is it illegal, yes. Is it dangerous, yes. So F-ing what. They ain't riding Harleys or Vulcans or PCs for a reason. |

LOL, I posted this thread due to the said @ss Hat doing this in traffic and endangering others. Let me be clear though, the Buell's have been on the slower side of the bikes I have owned and on a very, very regular occasion I ride the other bikes at "indicated speeds" that would put this @ss hat to bed, but I do it on Hwy's that stretch for miles with no traffic if the occasional horse on the side of the road.... There is a difference in my book and that's my 2cents. |

Unfortunately there is a segment of the sportbike community that glorifies stunting, and speeding on highways that see heavy traffic at times when they are very busy. I think that the where and when are far more in question than what he was doing. We all speed from time to time, the time and place (for most of us) is a factor in just how fast we go, just as we nearly all pull wheelies, but most of us don't do it in places where it puts others at risk. A little common sense goes a long way on all sides of this equation. |

I think our society could use more high-speed wheelies and stoppies in the lane-splitting spaces...keep everyone on their A-game, out there, keep the asphalt a bit greasier.... |
