Hey guys and gals. My little sis is about to turn 16 and has been working on getting her permit. My dad is doing the "at home" driving school. I fear she will act like most 16 year old blondes while driving, so i'm looking for any motorcycle awareness videos I can find. I know most of them are European as us Americans are too big of pansies to air them here. (which is B.S, but another topic.) So if anyone has any quick links that I can show her, i'd greatly appreciate it. Nothing bloody or too bad, just a good video that gets the point across to keep an eye out at all times for us riders. (But maybe a little shock effect would be good, hehe!) Thanks guys -Robert xblights@yahoo.com |

This was e-mailed to me by a co-worker not too long ago: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JUST A BIKER I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none. I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere But you didn't see me going home to be with my family. I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me. I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you race do wn the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right. I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me. (Message edited by darthane on June 02, 2008) |

There was a good video on another thread that had you counting how many times a ball was passed, at the same time a bear danced through the group, at the end of the video it asked if you saw the bear. It makes a good point about how easy it is to miss something. One other thing... take her phone away |

One of the biggest problems with this generation is texting while driving. Talking is bad enough but texting!!! |

It's too bad that I didn't have a camera on during my ride home tonight. I saw a lady in an Explorer pull up to a stop sign on my left. I could tell that she was hurrying a little. I could also see that the roof pillar was blocking her view of me. Sure enough she pulled out so I turned on my high-beam. She made some type of motion that I couldn't tell but it looked like an oh-s__t, I'm sorry. Then she buzzed up the residential street about 10 over the limit. I just wonder if she'll pause a little longer the next time, but I doubt it. |

yea, I think texting is worse then talking on the damn phone! And for the record, I think she is a tad too young for you old pervs! haha. And I doubt that lady will even remember you next time she pulls to that stop sign. After thinking about all this, I think i'll buy me some HID's to help out with the front end some.......hehe |

Azxb9r, I posted it earlier in the thread you were referring too so it was easy for me to find. I'll have to concur with the take away the cell phone votes, well, maybe not take it away but put some restrictions on it. I was almost sideswiped last week by a kid on his way to school. When I passed him he had his head down looking at his phone either dialing or texting. |

I was almost sideswiped last week by a kid on his way to school. When I passed him he had his head down looking at his phone either dialing or texting. Get the tag number, file a complaint with the pd. I want to get a helmet cam and capture stuff like that with faces and tag #s then send it to PD / Traffic court, can you say wreckless. I came up on a young blonde woman some time back head bobbing car all over the lane speed irratic, I thought that she might have a sick kid in the seat next to her, NOPE - when I pulled up next to her there was a lap top open on the seat papers all over the front and an open book over her right leg. stress to your sister that driving is a PRIVLEDGE and A responcibility, take her for a ride in HEAVY traffic, and ask her if she would be comfortable with some one behind the two of you texting / makeup / reading etc....} |

Put a cell phone jammer in the car, keyed to the ignition. Key on, jammer on...no phone. Key off (i.e. safe, or post-accident and phone is needed), jammer is off. And don't tell her where it is in the car, lol. I thought about putting on in the dash of my Uly, but I figure it'd be *worse* if everyone around me suddenly lost their signal and not only wanted to talk, but was messing with their phones trying to get them to work again (and paying even less attention to their driving). |

I came up on a young blonde woman some time back head bobbing car all over the lane... I thought you were going somewhere entirely different with that. My bad. Anyways, I work rather closely with the local PD and already know I'd be pissing up a rope trying to get that done. |
