Hey all, Just got my first handgun (well pick it up Friday, damn 3 day rule) Its a S&W Sig Series .40cal. Got a price I couldn't pass up.
(Gander Mountain is having a grand opening by me and MSRP was $458 and with rebate it was $299.)

Anywho, I'm looking for some insight from all that carry on good websites for holsters / cleaning kits / acc. that kind of stuff.

I know I could just Google it but I wanted some good recommendations on reputable sites.

My Galco holsters have been great (I have a shoulder rig I seldom use and a SOB that I use all the time). On the SOB I have practiced drawing with an unloaded gun quite a bit to make sure I don't sweep others or shoot myself in the a$$, practice if you are going to use one of these.

I also use a Blackhawk carbon holster that is pretty good for carrying concealed, not as secure as I like since I use the paddle but it comes with a belt slide too if you prefer.

I bought a Kleen cleaning kit years ago, I don't use the oil it came with, prefer to get by with One Shot cleaning/lubricating spray. It dries on and doesn't attract dust like the oils will.

Carry at work and concealed (.40 cal) model 23 Glock.

I frequent the holsterstore.com often. Fobus, Uncle Mikes, custom leather,...

I really like my S&W .40. It's a reliable piece and not so costly that you don't want to carry it and shoot it. Keep it crazy clean and never limp-wrist it when you shoot and it'll perform flawlessly.

The Fobus paddle works great too.

Anything I should look out for?
I have seen some universal cleaning kits for about 30 bucks, are they too go to be true? I know you usually get what you pay for.

I would buy caliber specific. I don't know if your weapon is hexagonal bore or not, but even slight differences in brush size can hamper complete cleaning.

The Fobus holsters work well, but they are kind of noisy when you pull the pistol out. I doubt that would be important to anyone but an assassin, though.

I don't know anything about this kind of pistol, but Fobus holsters will wear through the blue of a 1911 in very short order.

I carry the same thing (Sig Pro 2340) and have been happy with my Ted Blocker holster(s).

Locals, a few miles form the house.

http://www.tedblockerholsters.com/tedblocker.php

Look at his DA3, the clips are such that you can carry under a tucked in shirt. Obviously hard to draw, but I hope never to be in a hurry.

I'm also fond of the skeleton rigs. (Similar to his B5.) I'm sure you've noticed the .40 in a double stacked mag is a pretty fat gun, add two layers of thick hide and it's even worse. The skeleton rig trims the thickness down a bit. More comfort, and less bulge...

If you pull holster for practice, all will "wear" the finish. Leather wears less than hard plastic. Hard plastic doesn't seem to "stick".

I also own a sigma 40 cal , get a plastic holster. Ohh yeah there are not many holsters listed for this gun, it is the EXACT same shape and size as the Glock 20-21, so get a holster for one of those.S&W lost a law suit for copying glock, our guns are nicknamed "swocks". Nice piece tho, heavy trigger pull but with the trigger style saftey i think that it is nice with it heavy. Dont shoot the cheap steel cased rounds either, they jam easier. The brass one wont gve you trouble.

Thanks so much, this is all very useful information.

Cyclonemduece-Great little tid-bit there, I will really remember that one. do you think the Mag's are interchangeable?

I really like that crossbreed holster. Perfect for concealed carry

What kind of Holster are you looking for? IWB, OWB, SOB or shoulder. There are many different brands, and all have varying features. More important then a holster, is the belt you use. A good quality belt, will make or break an IWB holster, and also helps support the weight on an OWB as well.

Safariland, Galco, Blackhawk, and Desanti all make quality holsters for your S&W. I would recommend if you go with an IWB, that you get one with two kydex or belt supports.... if you only have one attaching point, you'll find yourself shifting the placement of the gun if you sit/stand a lot. (which could give you away) For a leather holster, Milt Sparks, Tucker Gunleather, Michael DelFatti (good luck finding a Del Fatti holster!!) are all good options as well.

It really comes down to where and HOW your going to carry that will help narrow down your choices.... as someone already said, make sure you practice as much as you can with an empty weapon so it becomes second nature.

Fobus paddle holsters don't attach to the belt, they slip inside the waiste of your pants. If you wear your pants gangsta' style, a belt would certainly help keeping the weight of the pistol from pulling your pants down though.

I like the Fobus because I can pull the holster off my belt quickly when getting into the car. Goes on just as easily. I don't like in the belt holsters.

I'd like to try a shoulder holster.

I was originally thinking about the SOB but the IWB looks great, not sure how well it will work with my love handles but all the more reason to get my @ss in the gym.

I really like the Clips and not the thru the belt style. Like Ft_bstrd said, Will make it that much easier to take off when needed to and wont have to almost take your pants off to do so.

I don't think the shoulder would work to well for me, I don't wear that many over coats or full button down shirts.

There are so many choices I don't know were to start.
And I thought Buells were an addicting hobby.

I've got a Comp-Tac IWB, that I wear above my wallet for my M&P that works well as long as I don't try and tuck my shirt in.

What works for one person will not work for another. I wear a doc. Holiday shoulder rig with a texas cross draw had to home make it to use both parts. I can hit kill button on v-rod with right hand pull in clutch with left hand un zip draw and fire with bike still in motion it works good for me. (it will take a lot of practice before you are acurate and fast though.

Damn Tramp I do not understand your post. but it sounds like you dont aprove of my life style. but as I ride a lot in back country roads with no one near by I sure as hell dont want a bunch of crack heads pulling out in front of me and shuting down and leaving me on the side of the road as has happened to some riders also a few bikes have been hijacked and striped and left riders in a bad way. I am not giving up my bike or my money easy. when you are runing 50 to 100 miles between towns you cant be to careful, I am not a bad ass but I want be pushed eather.
