Went out with my friend Joey and his dad Joe. Recently(Friday) they got a set of father/son mint condition Goldwings. `86 & `83 Both pristine, clean enough to serve dinner off of. We rode from Ormond Beach to Palm Coast and had dinner. And were gonna ride A1A south to 92 to hit up an icecream parlor for some weird sundae. What ever free meal, dessert, and a tank of gas? I'm in! We were maybe 5 miles South of 100 and Joe Sr. and the Mrs. are out front, 60 yards behind them is his son Joey and his wife. And I'm toddling alond about 100 yards back cause they cant hear their radios with me around. WTFE its cool. I see Joe Sr. Swerve a bit and the tai lights jump a foot up from normal distance from the road. And particles shining in the headlights of his sons bike as he swerves. I let off the throttle and coast as i watch them ride onto the sidewalk brake lamps blazing. About that time I see a body barrel rolling through the air and land 10 feet in front of me and in the opposite traveling lane. Killed mine and dropped the kickstand there in the road. had my phone out and 911 dialed when 3 EMTs saw what happened from a party right at the street side.

Dude and his buddies were hammered and came running up off the beach when this 20 year old kid missed a northbound car and stood deer in headlights in front of the bike. Joe Sr.'s Interstate model had more lights than a baja truck! No idea how this idiot didn't see him from way back.

Kid layed unconscience till medics arrived. He was back boarded and gurneyed to Halifax Hospital(almost an hour away).
Joe Sr. has a broken collar bone and a trashed GL1200. And possible damage to his existing herniated disks.

Kid got a ticket for jay walking, but no drunk in public. And no health insurance I over heard.

Witnessing this has put the final nail in the coffin. ATGATT 100%(All The Gear All The Time) The stimulus check I'm getting is going to an armor jacket. And with what evers left; axle sliders.

sorry to hear about your friends, hope they recover quickly without any longterm complications.(still got scars and problems with my ankle after 32 years) i did have some gear on at the time, just not great gear. the better the gear, the less you'll suffer in the long run. just my opinion.

Sorry to hear about your friends, but we have to remember that it is not only your
mistakes you have to take into account whenever you go out for a ride.

ATGATT can and does save lives
