For those who don't know me, I have been a member of this board for about 5 years, and a Buell owner since I bought my M2 in 2002 new. I still own the bike and love it. I have done 400 mile lazy days, track days, and even shined it up for a bike show or two. I met Erik, got his signature on a Buell pit crew shirt, and proudly wear my buel shirt when heading out to an event. I get four different Bike magazines and still get excited when I see an article about Buell... That is until I get done reading it. I remember back to the XB and belt issues galore. Not to mention the lack of HP vs. similar priced other bikes. The Uly was said to be to heavy for real off-roading and to tall for most riders. (of course this was written by generally short 5'9" ex racers turned writers) Now the 1125 comes out and it is getting less then rave reviews. The last article I read stated that they used 4 bikes before the test was over. Fuel mapping issues, Dead batterys, extreme heat from the engine??? What the heck is going on???? Is there a reason Aprilla gets a ton more performance out of their rotax motors then Buell??? Did someone give them the secret password to build a fuel injection system that doesn't suck??? After the Buell release for the 1125 I read three different mags that each said they had bike issues at the test. Did someone send the truckload of rejects to the party? "Got Buell?" it should be more like "Got a laptop so you can reset your TPS every 500 miles?" I will continue to own (and love) my carborated M2 till they pry it from my cold dead hands. It is still the best looking and performing Sportster ever made. But it would be nice to have another Buell to be interested in. I sure haven't seen, read about, or test rode one I would consider buying since I took mine home six years ago. |

I love my Blast. Simple. Rock solidly reliable. Cost-effective. Fun, although no where near fast. Still it will do 85 up the Blue Ridge Mountains. I don't know about the other bikes. It seems like sh#$ happens every time they get a review. |

Only to those who dont get it.... I have over 50k on two seperate XB's and only one failure that was not my fault, and that was last week when my VR connector melted down. |

The 03's had issues. Those issues were corrected in subsequent model years. The 06 Uly had issues. Those issues were corrected in subsequent model years. The 1125R has issues. Those issues will be corrected in subsequent model years. How much difference is there between an 01 R1 and an 08 R1? Refinements yes. Major changes? Not really. How much difference is there between an 01 Buell and an 08 Buell? There are more dynamic design changes in Buells than in most models on the market. As a result, the learning curve is more difficult to perfect. The changes are greater over a shorter period of time resulting in less development time for a given technology before it hits the market. Conversely, Buell's ability to correct these issues is faster (yes I know the headlight issue hasn't been corrected yet). There were major changes between the 06 and 08 Uly. I'll be interested in what the 1125R looks like as an 09 or 2010 model year. These first model year issues will be sorted out. |

If an XB "sucks" a tuber does something much worse. If you love your M2 (and there are plenty of reasons to love an M2), there should be no need to explain the attraction of an XB. |

My bikes been pretty trouble free that wasn't my fault.. I can't figure out why buell keeps sending Crappy bikes that aren't sorted out to be reviewed.. |

koz, i know what you mean about your m2. i bought the 02 low in sept. 01 and it had well over 23k on it before the daughter got rear ended on it almost 2 yrs ago. and the only real problems were with the speed sensors. other than that, it's been a great ride. with the 2nd one that i got to replace the first, there was an issue with the motor, but that was the price i paid just so i can have that bike. now that the motor was rebuilt again, i'm hoping it will last a bit longer. now with the xbscg that we had, i never felt comfortable on it which is probably why i wrecked it. but with the xt, i feel comfortable riding it and i think with a different muffler on it, i'll get that bottom end grunt like the m2 has. or at least i hope it will. |

yeah i dont get why buell wouldnt have sent the press there best of the best bikes that have been tweaked to the nine's to ensure that they get a good review. What do you think erik thinks when he sees a review, ill bet he read the magazines also, WTF? |

I'd guess that if the fuel injection doesn't work right, all the bikes they send will run poorly. At least three in a row with the Cycle World 1125 test. Then the TT sent to Motorcyclist keeps stalling when it gets hot, as well as some of the other 08s on this board. This is the 3rd iteration and 9th year of DDFI. Maybe it's time to let a company that specializes in fuel injection design the system. I hear Harley's open loop systems work great. |

What really baffles me is that during the Laguna press intro of the 1125 the FI sucked under 4k, as noted by the journalists. I test rode one a couple of months ago, and it was immediately obvious that the FI, or something, was way off under 4k. It ran horribly. So....if you knew the pre-production bikes were unacceptable to the testing journalists, why send out bikes still doing the same thing? I just don't get it. I'm sure there is something we don't know, but it is frustrating to watch. |

Koz,my friend. I've been apart of this board a long time just like you. I also started with the tuber..... sheesh you know what I did to that bike starting 8 years ago that blew people away. Then I got the XB bug when the 12 released. Hell the first one in Wisconsin to have one.(Thanks Daves). I still love the bike and miss my tuber. My take on tuber's??? They had alot of issues as well. Paint bubbling, rockerbox leaks, bushing problems, front motor mounts and the list goes on. The XB MODELS??? Well they had issues as well but not as many. Now the Rotax powered 1125R. It is going to have a few issues as well. Remember its a all new engine design head to toe.The Gixxer has evolved to what we see today. The 1125R needs to do the same. I don't know what my next bike may be or if I have a next bike on the account I have little time on mine these days. Hell I've actually thought of selling The Last Laugh this year if I don't get out. But I love Buell, the people and this forum. |

Harley's aren't high performance sporting machines either. All the fuel injected Buells I've personally seen work great. |

No EFI problems noted on the Aus launch. None of the other Journos mentioned any at least. Mine ran great. One bike I know of locally has issues though. |

I am convinced they need a resident Buelligan on staff. Just seems that the ride reviews are well kinda lack luster. everybody seems miffed that they didnt to take out the Ducati, Ktm, Yahabusaki and were forced to ride the Buell. |

Boy I hope Buells don't suck. I plan to buy an XT for my next bike. With 2 kids in college I probably won't be able to afford one until it has been discontinued, become obsolete, and the XBs are in the museum. At least any bugs will be worked out by then. Come to Homecoming guy's. Watch Erik play. I have 8 bartenders and all female. They will out bartend any two guys ever. They also control a crowd. These two are my Thursday night duo. They will be working the night of July 3rd when Erik and band play unless something happens that one of them can't work. But then another will step in. They are the most friendly you'll find. I know guys, all good points, but I don't see any glaring disagreements here. It just seems weird that the FI systems still seem crappy compared to other companies using motors from the same company. I agree other bikes have problems to. The fly by wire system on the yamaha's in the first year had serious issues, but I think that was sorted out within the year. Just once I would like to read a review from an establish magazine where the writer walked away stating the Buell was a great bike, with no issues, and was a must own item It just sucks reading a review that you can tell the writer was unimpressed... again... We can all dream I guess... |
