for the people that dont visit the Uly bored much thought i would put it over here also. Dear Buell Dealers: Buell Motorcycle Company is excited to announce the latest edition to the Buell family, the Ulysses Police XB12XP! This announcement is being made early to allow our dealers to start engaging customers and taking orders now for this exciting new product. Given their often extended procurement cycle, this early release information will allow public agencies to properly plan for the addition of a Buell Ulysses Police to their fleet later in the year. The new Ulysses Police will be available as a 2009 model-year vehicle, and production is due to begin in August. Shown as a concept vehicle at January's Winter Dealer Meeting, the Ulysses Police offers government agencies and private security firms a quick and nimble special duty patrol vehicle that is capable of travel over a variety of terrain, from open highways to city streets to unpaved back-country roads. XB12XP Ulysses Police Product Contents and Features Based on the versatile Buell Ulysses adventure sportbike, the Ulysses Police features long-travel suspension, generous ground clearance and aggressive tires that allow it to tackle roads too rough or narrow for confident travel in an automobile or on a traditional police motorcycle. On smooth pavement, the Ulysses Police is an agile sport motorcycle. The Ulysses Police can also accommodate a passenger. Special features of the Ulysses Police include new hard-shell top and side cases, each removable and lockable. The side cases are narrower than the standard Ulysses XB12XT side cases, allowing for more clearance in tight situations. On the Ulysses Police model the Buell Triple Tail system functions as a luggage rack with tie-down hooks over the rear seat position, or as a cushioned passenger backrest with grab rails. A tall windshield, heated hand grips, and wind deflectors are also standard equipment. Available for the Ulysses Police through P&A is an Emergency Response kit offering 3 different lighting color options. This package includes a siren system and LED emergency lighting ready for true plug-and-play dealer installation. The lighting package is available in 3 options: All red LEDs, combination red and blue LEDs, or all blue LEDs. We estimate the dealer installation time for the complete emergency equipment kit to be approximately two hours. The Ulysses Police will be offered in two color choices: Birch White and Midnight Black. I wonder if the rest of us will benefit from what HAS to be a beefier voltage regulator, instead of the fragile thing they're using now... |

When the motorcycle police with XB12XPs start doing involuntary wheelies will they pull over to ticket themselves? |

That'd be ugly. I wouldn't know how to react to being pulled over and ticketed by someone with permagrin. |

I don't think the would be able to give another Uly rider a ticket. Instead, they would compare farkles and see who had the most of their footpegs ground off. Shake hands and drop the hammer, wheelie and smile.... |

I took those pics in July 07, they were the standard size bags back then. I think the bike in my pics must have been an early test rig. I added more pictures on the other thread. |

YEH GEORGE! he knows who he is, though I thought the TT would have made a better platform because of the lower ground clearance and less top heavy profile. I have been working with a couple of agencies locally for these bikes for their "Kegger Party Patrols" Now if the rest of us can get the heavier electronics and mammoth horn ! |

Last fall I was at Bruce Rossmeyer's HD in Ormond Beach (Daytona) and they had a bike in for service that looked just like police bike the pictures, including colors, lights, badges and siren but, they told me it was a bike that the Daytona Beach police had in for service. |

Just saw the "official" pic in the H-D and Buell in the news thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/253 912/363108.html?1211493152 Really diggin' the black engine cases AND the pewter wheels... bet both would look nice on a black S or R model. Notice anon has been very quiet about this? Usually we get little hints here and there. While I think the Uly is cool, isn't it a little tall for police work? Not every moto officer is 6ft+ Also I wonder if they improved the kickstand. Nothing worse than an officer dismounting his ride to write a ticket, only to have his bike topple |

Digging the black pegs. How do the blue/red lights mount on? Shouldn't be hard to switch to some big ass PIAAs |

Great, now they'll have bikes that can put up a fight in the curves. Darn. Hopefully this one makes it to the market though. I remember when Buell was working on a police platform some years back and how HD killed it. |

It's about freakin' time! Hmmm, a quicker, more agile American made police motorcycle that can also handle off-road use. That just makes waaay to much sense for government work. |

I love it!!! I think they should have used the XB12XT or the TT for the lower seat height though... Unfortunately, I don't think they will catch on that big, as the po-po bikes already on the market are proven and Buell is a pretty much unknown in the po-po bike biz.... But I sure would love to be proven wrong and see them become as big a hit as the Harleys!!!! Oh yeah, most agencies lease the bikes as oppossed to purchasing them. Hope this is an option with the Buell. |

Second negative is lack of ABS. Many departments stick with BMW due to the ABS system. |
