I love Guiness, best on draft and luke-warm! Interestingly, it is a low alchohol beer, due to the traditional tax on alchohol content in UK. |

"Has any one ventured overseas and had a beer made buy Guinness called Killkenny (not sure on the spelling). It is a heavy amber and is by far my favorite, but you can not buy it any where I have traveled in the US." ~~~>Hardcorps Actually, yeah - when I was in Japan I found an honest-to-God Irish pub in downtown Hiroshima called Molly Malone's that served Kilkenny's and fell in love with it. That place had great food, threw great parties, and had great beer - what wasn't to love? You can find Kilkenny's across the border in Canada, but it's not the same type as what they served on tap over in Japan. What I've been able to find in Canada is a cream ale, and it's damned good. I always try to remember to bring some home with me when I get sent up near Toronto on business. |

I LOVE Guinness, it is on my top 5 list of favorite beers. Also in that top list are all of Samuel Smith's offerings, and at the very top is Samuel Smith's seasonal winter brew. It is yummy!! There was a version of the Guinness mix that I was introduced to when I was in Scottland, IIRC it was called a Black Velvet. It was half Guinness, and half lemon-lime soda.. it was good. The lemon-lime soda that they use is NOT like Sprite or 7-up at all.. it was a lightly carbonated soda that went very well with the bitterness of the Guinness. I tried it with sprite, it was a failure, and a waste of a good Guinness. I have made reparations since. Oh, and the bottled version of Guiness, IMHO, sucks. The Draught Cans are not bad in a pinch, but the only real way to drink Guinness is pulled from the tap.

Like a good scotch, I can't mix my Guiness. Sam Smiths are GREAT! I used to make a lot of English style beers and Sam smith is a flagship to emulate. the American microbrews have gotten so good and accessible I hardly drink imports anymore, or bother making my own. |

Normally pub cans, since I prefer the widget in them as opposed to the newer bottles The older pre widget bottles where a bit nasty. I actually use it in my chili recipe (along with some cocoa and cinnamon) .. |

The Guiness Extra Stout in bottles is beyond me but the draft stuff, especially at a good pub is great. Even the cans and bottles of it are good. |

Extra Stout on tap is nice. The draft cans are good too. Bottles don't hold enough. My taste in beer and ale is similar to my taste in music, wide, varied and often changing. |

I am a firm believer in the fact that there is no bad beer, some are just better than others. My best pint of Guiness was at Matt Malloy's in Galway City with a bunch of teenagers playing the Concertina, tin whistle, Uelian pipes, Borhan etc. It was our ten year anniversy. What a blast that was. I think our twins were concieved that night. |

Hey, when you mix its a 1/2 and 1/2, black and tan were english police from the bad old days Guinness, as others have shown, is a great light beer, in term of calories not taste. Also its pretty low on alcohol so you can have a fair share of pints and still be vertical. First place I went in Ireland was St James Gate. Nothing like the taste of a pint at the brewery! It was nice to be in bars (well pubs) when all you had to do was ask for a pint , and they brought out the correct item. I used to be into Porters but now its pretty much Guinness and IPAs (Middle ages in Syracuse brews a nice one) |

Guinness is a unique stout in that lactose is added in the brewing process. That helps give Guinness its unusual taste. My 20 years as a homebrewer led me to a lot of places and brewing styles. I prefer Beamish Stout, but can't find it around here much these days. It's smoother than Guinness and goes down way too quickly to be safe... I've heard that draught Guinness is lower in alcohol than the bottle version. Not sure about the can "draft" version. |

It seems to me that Guinness is the American way. It's dark like in the Dark, it's the way we are keep. So I see no need to be different in what I drink. Kinda makes me want a Red Robin mushroom Burger and a pint. Joe |

Guinness is my beer of choice. Cold or room temp as long as the head is right! My Irish buddy told me that according to his grandfather, it's like mother's milk and will cure all your ills. I requested it in the recovery room after my recent prostate surgery and they refused. Can you believe it?!? |

Boddington's is quite nice. I'm also a fan of Smithwicks. Half-n-half is Guinness and Harp (note the H's). Black and Tan is Guinness and Bass (note the B's). I'm lucky in that we have a "proper" pub here in Maryland that pulls the Guinness with Nitrogen, not CO2. Nitrogen is the right way to pull a Guinness, it gives it that nice silky texture and a great cascade as it settles. Extra stout - will do in a pinch, but I'm a fan of the draught or out of the tap. I got hooked in college; it was the only way to keep my roommates from drinking my beer! Dammit. It's only 10am, I've got work to do on the S2...and I already want a guinness. grr! |

Bridgeport's Stout is very tasty, maybe a little on the sweet side. Lately I've taken a liking to the really hoppie stuff. Bitburger and Sam Adams come to mind. |

I didn't want to bring it up since we were talking about Ale's and Stout's, but Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA is definitely moving up to near the top of my personal list, by the way it's 9% alcohol. Great Stuff, It has a head (flavor) that reminds me of grapefruit. |

Black and Tan is Guinness and Bass (note the B's Note the "N". Black and Tans are also done with New Castle. Not really a difference. |
