The set up A JVC GR-D93 mini-dv camera, stowed in the tank bag. An older set-up from Helmetcamera(.com) Which is a 480 bullet cam. Mounted on the left bar. That is the fly screen in the lower right corner of the video. Believe it or not the high gain mic from the kit is buried in the tank bag also. Wrapped in foam and buried in the center of the bag. Picks up the engine/exhaust real nice. Minimizes the wind noise. I am simply using the camera as a vcr and recording the remote camera. Using the mini-dv format allows a digital dump of the data to the computer for the cutting and slicing. This was just a quick job done in Windows Movie maker. Out of 57 mins of video shot the other day. I have about 25 usable for stuff like this. My second and third snippets are done. The second will go to youtube in the next couple days. | ||

One of the problems with using most of bullet cames out there. Finding a camera that will record from an aux input. Getting rarer and rarer with the newer cams. | ||

Very Cool music... Nice vid... How do you get the wind noise out of the camcorder.. Did you tape some foam over the mic? Is it just the camera? It looked like you are really riding the Yellow at times.. | ||

Cancel the wind noise at its source. Minimized its pickup by burying the remote mic in the tank bad surrounded by some dense foam. Part me and part cam mounting. The cam mounting is on the left bar. I also tend to ride left of center. My sight lines are better than the cams. I also know this stretch of road like the back of my hand. An aside to that.....I was not on it during the peak use period. | ||

Same here re: finally getting the moto a/v system together and on the bike! And same here for microphone placement. As Loki says, finding the right a/v recorder with analog input can be an issue. I've used a DV cam to capture bullet cam video, but the setup has been a PITA, with short battery life and no LANC provision for easy on-off. Next I bought a Neuros Recorder2 gizmo, but it isn't quite the perfect onboard device either. This season I'm gonna try something new: Pinnacle Video Transfer (PVT) http://www.pinnaclesys.com/pvt/ This gizmo will capture a/v directly to an appropriate USB device, and I'll use either my iPod Video or USB portable hard drive. Right now I'm looking for a good mil-spec DC-DC converter to supply regulated 5Vdc at minimum 2000mA in order to power the PVT and its recording device. For now I am sticking with the PITA set-up. Not having lanc is a drawback. Something I am willing to live with for now. Now waiting for a couple more items to get shipped to me. Will be able to cam two separate bikes or two cam a single.Would be kinda cool to do a PiP with the main being shot fwd and the inset showing a rear view. Just looked at the PVT. It has potential. If it transferred the data in an uncompressed format instead of MPEG4. I would probably go that route. | ||

Yep, LANC would be nice, but not a requirement if your DV cam has straightforward controls, which my Canon DV does not! More than a couple of times I've finished a ride and found that my a/v recording didn't record. True that the PVT won't produce top notch video. I'm eager to see how VGA resolution works in a variety of playback sizes, most of which will be small windows. I'm with you re: PIP, and maybe trying a sequencer for something like a music video format, getting video from front & rearview & rider cams. Just bought two 420line bullet cams to supplement a 520line cam, and I've got my eye on the VS4X1 sequencer from these folks: http://www.netmedia.com/video_solutions.html Small, 12Vdc, simple to operate. | ||

I have a 520 on its way to me and just won an auction for another GR-D93. Thankfully the controls are easy to get at. Some cam builders just make things so hard. I have used Sony Hi-8 and this will be my third JVC mini-dv. I am really liking what JVC has done and continues to do. |
