My first house was right next to a small airport. There were 2 Mustangs and a Corsair in hangers. As soon as I heard any of them fire up (their hangers were less than 1 1/2 blocks from my house) I'd hop on my bicycle as scoot over to watch them do their tune ups and run ups. Man what a sound! Shortly before we moved, the Corsair lost power on take off, the pilot put it back down on the end of the runway and hit the binders HARD to avoid going through the fence and into a house. The plane nosed over, smashed the canopy and seriously buggered up the vertical stablizer. I saw the plane take off again about a year later... The sound these birds make on takeoff is a sound that is not soon forgotten. It is truly a mechanical symphony. Brad |

Did you live over by Flying Cloud? My sister lived near there and sure was fun to visit. |

No Mike, it was the Crystal airport. The 4th busiest in the state! I just heard that little fact yesterday in the news after a hanger went up in flames with 3 or 4 planes in it.. |
