"Freezing" is one of the options. Its been used to kill tumors for some time now. Any of the options that essentially kill the prostate in place (including radiation) have a somewhat higher possibility that you won't get all the cancer. These are better for older folks (70s up) who can't take the strain of an operation and frankly won't live that much longer anyway. Here's the big downside: If you "kill" the prostate in place and DON'T get all the cancer, you are done. There is almost nothing they can do. Once it's dead they can't cut it out.

Really? I don't know anything about it, but seems like once it's dead would be the ideal time to cut it...?

The way I understand it, they didn't freeze the whole thing. Dunno if that matters or not.

Lends a new definition to "self medicating". (there is no appropriate emoticon image to insert here)
= = = = =
edit to add: oops, I guess there is, but I'm not going to use it.

If my Dad had gone in for a prostate exam each year, he would still be alive. He didn't go to the Dr. and when he started feeling bad the prostate cancer had spread all over him. He lasted a little less than a year. I go in for a test every year now. REX

Rex - I'm sorry for your loss bro. I have felt indestructible for my whole life. This has given me a slightly different perspective. You, especially need to get your PSA checked from 40 on since there is a genetic link to it.
I got confirmation yesterday from a post op biopsy that the cancer was wholly contained in the remover prostate.
With today's technology it makes no sense to not get a yearly physical.
