http://www.northcountrygazette.org/2008/04/20/moto rcycle_crash/

Was driving home from horseback riding with the girl saturday aftenoon and saw the glisson of chrome on the side of the road. A guy in a truck and I both turned around to help and were the first ones there.

Bike was a dresser harley, totally trashed. Saddlebags and top case were smashed, seat was gone, windsheild gone, exhaust ripped up and leaning against a rock.

The rider was unconcscience, but was beathing and had a pulse. Can't tell if the guy was wearing a helmet - it wasn't on him when we got there - but there were two of those novelty helmets and two jackets on the ground. I got nervous and started looking in the woods for a second person, but turns out he was going solo.

He was a BIG guy - took 6 or 8 people to lift him onto the stetcher.

Needsless to say, it was a sobering experience for both myself as an experienced rider, and my girlfriend who just bought her first bike and has yet to ride it.

Thankfully, from all the articles I can find, the guy is still alive, though in critcal condition.

jeez, too bad you weren't there where those cops just gave up looking for that other biker in the ditch (Texas was it?). You did a hell of a lot better than THEY did.

Thank goodness for folks like you. He probably has no idea how lucky he is.

Did you find out what went wrong with him?

No credits in the article to you and the other guy hunh? Oh well. I guess that's not why we do good things, right?

I saw something I wish I hadn't yesterday. Was heading up I25 and was getting close to HCHD. Traffic was backed up. Well, after a short while I saw why. In the median there was cops and a sheet. I knew what was under it and could see the outline. A few feet up there was a bike. That humbled me a good amount.

I checked the news. No reason why it happened. But the news said he lost control some how and the guy hit the guard rail.

Warrensburg, your up there in my old neck of the woods.
I went to Queensbury high, and lived in Glens falls some of my teen years.
Used to ride rt 9 alot before they put in all those house farms.
Kudos to you for doing the right thing and stopping. regardless of the brand of bike he was riding OR his apparel, we ALL need to stand together.

A friend of mine, Ziptab from here and American Thunderbike Club, were on the Interstate in Arkansas when a Chevy Blazer swerved flipped and landed on it's side in the ditch, a lady had been thrown from the veh and I almost stepped on her. Looks like the car squished her into the "soft" ground, her husband scared the crap out of me when he sprang up out of the car looking for his wife. I tried to call the local authorities but nobody would give me an answer on how she was. I still don't know if she lived or not.

Just too much speed and probably not paying attention. He ran off the road going wide on a pretty wide turn, so he must have been moving along pretty good.

No credits in the article to you and the other guy hunh? Oh well. I guess that's not why we do good things, right?

Nah... we hung around until the ambulance took him away - I guess a helicopter was waiting somewhere where it could land. Just kind of a golden rule thing, really.

I actually live down in Clifton Park, but spend a lot of time up in the Adirondacks, especially in the summer.

Ya steal his wallet?

Rich, I can always count on you to point out my errors

Good thing you were there. I hope someone remembers to tell him what happened, he probably won't remember.

Question, did you smell any alcohol?

I never got really close to the guy (the other guy who stopped was emergency trained, so he dealt with the rider and I got the gas and ignition on the bike turned off), but there was no booze that I could tell. None of the news reports make any mention of it, either.
