On the 11:00 PM news last night here in Orlando there was a spot regarding some proposed Florida legislation that would mandate a minimum $1000 fine for the first offense of a motorcyclist cited for reckless driving. There was an increase in fine to $2500 for the 2nd offense and a loss of license for 10 years (not sure if that was just motorcycle endorsement or your license) and confiscation of you bike for the third offense.

What garbage!!!!! Why wouldn't this apply to those on four wheels as well?!!!

I have a hard time believing this will pass, but stranger things have happened.

Abate and other groups are fighting all the bunk laws they are trying or sneak past us..

This is what I call double standard law.

Cars,Trucks and motorcycle should all be accountable to the same laws and regulations.

This kinda of stuff really pisses me off as well...

This is Weird Florida there is a senator or congressman from I think Dade/Miami trying
to get those Nuts people hang on their
trucks outlawed....

Why even waste the time and tax dollars on something so stupid..

I saw that too Iride. The only thing that I have heard on cars is cracking down on street racing. If I remember right if your caught street racing they can confiscate the car right there as well as any spectator.

This still doesn't solve the problem with the other cagers.

i wonder what sparked this legislation? Did a statistic of wreakless motorcycles killing other civilians come out?

No, the requency of riders performing careless stunts in residential neighborhoods might have something to do with it.

Yesterday driving on Tuskawilla, there was a jack ass pulling a wheelie off the line and a family walking on the sidewalk!!!!

Is it unfair? Yes! This penalty should apply to all vehicles on the road.

Around here some towns will fine you $250 for skateboarding on the sidewalk, but only $70 if you make a left turn and kill a motorcyclist.

Seen on an Orlando bumper sticker:

When I'm old, I'm moving NORTH and driving slow

This makes no sense at all.
A reckless motorcyclist is most likely to only hurt himself.
A reckless driver of a car or truck is most likely to not only hurt himself but others as well.
As a police officer for 38 years, I never came across an accident involving a motorcycle that involved injuries to other than the bike riders.
