I just handed over my 2 week notice to my current gig making TV commercials @ an ABC station. And I just accepted a offer as a "civilian" videographer / editor. A full-time position with the Army National Guard. This position will be as a civilian contractor in support of the National Guard Strength Readiness Support Center (SRSC) and 54 States and Territories. I will work around military aviation, military equipment, snow, mountainous terrain, natural disasters and other stateside conditions that could be considered high risk environments. (No overseas work) I will shoot footage of National Guard programs/areas of interest (NASCAR, FLW Fishing, Hot Import Nights, American Drag Racing, College Paintball, USA Rugby, Soldiers in their training environment, Soldiers at Basic Combat Training, Soldiers and Families, etc) I cant wait.

Congratulations. Sounds like a real fun job. Guess you need to trade that Lightning in for a ULY with full bags to get your gear to the kind of places you'll be going now. |

That sounds like a great job. However, and sorry to piss on your Wheaties, I don't understand the increasing sponsorship by the various military branches in sporting events and advertising. Some of the events you mentioned I wasnt even aware the military was sponsoring. I attend the JSOH at Andrews AF base every year and it appears the military is spending ever increasing amounts of money on advertising on everything from jet cars to chrome laden H2's. I have my doubts any of this is helping the military meet recruiting goals but I do believe it's adding up to some nice perks in the way of tickets and other freebies for the brass. |

HERE IS A WARNING! I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE! Be sure to check all pictures of infantry personnel for exposed testicles! It was a buddies favorite trick. Any still photo? Pull out the nuts! I thought it was a really funny trick until I sent a picture of "me and the guys" home for Christmas. So.... Congratulations on your job. Some of the most entertaining pieces of gear on the planet belong to the military. Just remember my warning! Bill |

Barker congratulations, it sounds like a great gig. I don't suppose you need a French speaking driver? (naive hope) Here in Europe people are mightily puzzled that the Armed forces of any country sponsor sporting events, etc. And when I tell them that they sponsor NASCAR & Drag racing teams, they just shrug & say, well they're Americans what do you expect? |
