Here in the Army, we have custom patches made for our Scout Helicopter unit. This got me thinking... How cool a big-ass oval Buell patch would be on the back and front of my black mesh jacket, not to mention, on a number of leather jackets I've seen from Harley and others, or even on my backpack. Thing is, you gotta buy a bunch to order them, and of course they are cheaper the more you order. I found a shop that'll do as little as 12, and at a foot wide, oval shaped, they're about $30.00 a piece. I'm thinking the Buell, different in every sense oval in black, white, and orange. Sound off and we'll get this going! Sherm |

the badweb logo on the intro page looks suspiciously like the official Buell logo Blake. Lawyers are already on their way. |

Why does Buell not offer stuff like this themselves? Or do they and I'm just not looking in the right place? |

Wolf that's a good question, one that, unfortunately, cannot be addressed to Buell . . . . .my understanding is that Buell designs, manufactures, and sells motorcyles to HD, who then sells them, and patches and helmets and fgloves and chrome heel guards) to the public |

Bomber, wrong on that account. Harley does not sell the bikes for Buell. Buell distribution corp is responsible for that aspect. Harley may own the company but they do not control the sales. |

I asked Buell Corporate about the new Badweb logo. They said it was ok, but that I could sue Blake if I wanted to. So I have decided to sue Blake for everything he has. See you in court and best regards, Jon |

Blake, Have you ever considered having T-shirts made with that BadWeb logo on it? I'm not big on big ass patches or little ass patches either but I'd gladly pay for a T-shirt with that BadWeb logo on it. |

Don't bow to Dyna's expertise, because he is wrong. This is not in any way meant as a criticism of the current situation, just a simple set of facts, for those who want to know. Buell Distribution Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harley-Davidson (and has been since Harley-Davidson only owned 49% of Buell Motorcycle Company), responsible for the distribution of Buell motorcycles and the rest of the stuff mentioned. It has always been entirely staffed by Harley-Davidson employees. All Buell accessories are created and sourced by Harley-Davidson's Parts and Accessories division. All Buell apparel, patches, etc. are designed and sourced by Harley-Davidson's General Merchandise division. All Buell parts are sourced by Harley-Davidson's Parts and Accessories division. |

I knew there was a problem there--and that would sure explain Buell axle covers, etc. |

Are the bikes sold by harley?? No. They are sold thru Buell distribution corp. What was so complicated in what I wrote? Explain how i was wrong. You are now appearing to want to explain the whole company as being owned by harley so buell doesnt sell a damn thing? if thats so, then they must not build any bikes either since in essence all the Buell employees are actually harley employees. |

This is not in any way meant as a criticism of the current situation I have read criticism of the current situation on this board and others. I've seen people ask, Why can't Buells be sold through independent, Buell only dealers? Why do they have to be sold only through dealers associated with Harley-Davidson? I think Anonys right and that would answer these questions. That's the current situation. |

Dyna, I copied this quote off of Harley-Davidson's web site. They are talking about the Powertrain Operations on Capital Drive: Today the 450,000 square foot facility is dedicated to manufacturing SportsterŪ and BuellŪ powertrains. Sounds like they are saying that Buell powertrains are manufactured in a Harley-Davidson factory. They seem to treat Buell as just a division of Harley-Davidson. I know that this discussion has taken place before and I didn't participate in it. I think it would take a corporate lawyer to fully explain it. |

It seems like anon just wants to argue semantics. we all know Harley owns Buell. We all know who controls the purse strings. But Buell is a separate company that is owned by Harley. The motors are built by harley & sold to Buell. The bikes are built by Buell & sold to the various dealerships thru Buell distribution corp. Ultimately the profits do end up in harleys pocket. And Buells can be sold thru independant dealers. Modesto is one. Santa Cruz was the first stand alone Buell dealer in the country. Sure santa cruz also had a harley shop, but the Buell shop had its own entrance & was considered for all purposes a stand alone dealership. |

Even when Im not saying anything negative at all regarding buell..in fact I have praised the new bikes...some anon has to come in & act like a big shot. |

The confusion may lie in the simplified reference to "Harley." There are HDI and HDMC and BMC and BDC. One of them, HDI, owns the whole deal, the rest are subsidiaries. I believe that the various divisions mentioned by anony all fall under the purview of HDMC. Therein may lie a problem... risk of stepchild syndrome impinging the quality of Buell parts? Dyna, In any case, if HDMC owns BDC, your statement was incorrect. HDMC does not own Buell, but if they own BDC, they do indeed sell the bikes and are responsible for their sale. So your statement that... quote:"Harley does not sell the bikes for Buell. Buell distribution corp is responsible for that aspect. Harley may own the company but they do not control the sales."
would be misleading and deserving of clarification. I personally don't know. If by saying "Harley" you are referring to HDI, well, they own the whole show. You need to define exactly what you mean by "sales" and "Harley". Modesto is an independent dealer? They don't also own a Harley-Davidson dealership? There is no such thing as a stand alone Buell dealer that I've ever heard of. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I think the one major prerequisite for a new/existing Buell dealer is that he/she/they be a Harley-Davidson dealer. A separate storefront does not an "independent" Buell dealer make. It is however a great stride in the right direction toward providing Buell owners a high level of service. |

As I said..semantics. Anyways regarding Modesto...I do not know if they actually have a Harley dealership that is owned by the same folks. I have never bothered to look it up & have certainly never heard anyone mention one. I do not think there are any rules prohibiting someone starting up a Buells only dealership. |
