I gotta tell you guys that this bike has renewed my interest in riding again. 99% of my riding is commuting since my wife and 3 kids are priority one(my choice) but I still manage to average about 7k a year. My last ride was a 92 Kaw zr750(zephyr) which I bought new and put about 70k on it including one coast to coast trip and although it was a good motorcycle( yes it broke, beleive it or not bikes from the land of the rising sun do break !!) it never in over 72k miles of riding ellicited a "this is a cool mototrcycle" from me. Now only having owned my second hand 96 S1 for about 6 months and putting 4k miles on it I am hooked !! This bike is by far more fun than the (worked) 85 RZ350 I owned many years ago. Plus this lumpy twin is a heck of lot more streetable if you have to behave civilized in morning rush hour. Every time I get off this bike I have a dopey grin on my face. Buell makes one heck of a neat motorcycle, I wouldn't change a thing. |

Kenb, I couldn't agree more, and all but a disgruntled few on this board echo your sentiments. Buell put the "Motor" back in "Motorcycle". You'll never find yourself reaching down and touching the engine just to prove it's really running. A bit of advise though... Spend some quality time in the Knowledge Vault of this site. Become intimately familiar with the mechanical condition of your bike, and carry the few critical items you may need to get you home. This is the price your S1 will demand for reliable operation; well worth it in my opinion! |

Too right, Ken. I replaced a Zephyr 1100 and a Morgan sports car with a '98 S3T in 2001. I'm still grinning like an idiot today! |

Kenb, Wow, you are the only person I know of besides me who has owned a Zephyr 750. Mine was a '92 as well. I actually liked mine. It had good pep and never broke down on me. The biggest ride I ever took on it was from the Bay area California to Lewiston Idaho and back. I always thought it handled well. I was able to keep up with the sport bikes pretty good. It's the only bike besides Harley that I've ever seen with a fuel gage and it had some pretty trick stuff on it for it's time & class. I still miss it sometimes but yes, compared to a Buell it is a dog of a bike. But boy did I have some good times on her *sniff* |

don't get me wrong, I liked my Zeph it was a great bike, I could always keep up with my riding buddies in the twisties regardless of what they were riding. For 4700$ in 92 it was a deal the only other bike at the time that I considered was a Honda Nighthawk and the Zeph had it hands down on the Honda though. I actually considered the new z7 but the zrx1200 and new z1000 are so close in price it would be a waste to get the z7. the z1000 is butt ugly (too pokemon for me) and the zrx is way heavy/big besides I wanted a mainly domestic product. Now that I own the S1 I'm glad I didn't buy the others. |
