For those of you using a GXM 30 antenna with your Garmin GPS - how are you mounting it to the bike? I wanted to just put it on top of the gas cap on my firebolt, but alas, the gas cap isn't magnetic. I'm tossing around an idea - will it get reception through the windscreen? Keep in mind I have the stock clip-ons, so anything that bolts to a handlebar isn't going to work for me. Help?! I made a mount for mine from a piece of flat aluminum, then drilled it to mount to the zumo mount. As it's aluminum, I bolted the GXM30 to it. I just made it the shape of the radio with a square part off one side, to bolt it to the zumo mount. Someone makes one similar(touratech?), but I just bent mine to work. It recieves fine through the windscreen, one of the best mods I've made.

Rich - I think I've come across the plate you're talking about. I've thought about doing something similar since the angle mine sits at won't work with the one you can buy. Do you have pictures of your setup? |

Not separately, no. Sorry. I have five bikes, four of them licensed, so I need the stuff to work on everything. That's why I made my own, I can bend it to fit. The zumo mount has the standard four hole mounting, I just sandwiched my piece between the zumo mount and the Ram ball. |

Sounds like you made exactly what I was thinking of making. I also was thinking about making a similar bracket that would mount between the windshield and the fairing stay, so the antenna would be under the front of the windshield. I think between these two possibilities I should be all set. |
