I have a hard time understanding why riding a motorcycle is labeled a SPORT. It is a mis justice that magazines and officials bestow upon us. On the track yes, on the road not. Unless dodging left turners counts. It does not present us well in the eyes of the not riding public and officials that regulate our method of transportation.

I claim it as sport for a few reasons:

It's more physically demanding than either golf or bowling.

It takes years to master the skills, and there is always more to learn.

It can cause you physical harm if you don't "play" it right.

That and it falls under the general concept of "motor sports".

I don't see why it should cast us in a bad light with the public.

Would you rather we were reduced to point A to B scooter riders? That isn't why I ride.

I don't commute.

Moving a house worth of furniture fits this too - does that make it a sport? lol

I think motorcycling is a fuzzy line on the street. I don't think of it as a sport. However, I do think of skiing as a sport, and yet it really isn't much different.

Years back, I was involved in a sports medicine study, and got to look at the conclusions. They compared Bowlers, Golfers, Hang Glider Pilots, ( my group )Motocrossers, and ( road ) Cyclists.

A lot of psycho mumbo jumbo later, the guys in the BEST Physical shape were the Motocrossers, then Cyclists, Hang Glider Pilots, Golfers, then Bowlers. The shrink part ended up insisting that the ones in the most "radical" sports were the most stable. Got quite a laugh out of that. That's right, Golfers are nuts.
