If you come to France, look for this sign on a restaurant.
You'll generally find very good, reasonably priced food, I've rarely been disappointed. It's easy to tell the best restaurants, they're the one's with the parking full of trucks. It's not a chain, just a guide to independent hotels & restaurants. They're also in other parts of Europe too, details here (in French) http://www.relais-routiers.com/ |

Great tip Grumpy. I will probably not get to france anytime soon, but I have a couple of friends heading that way and will pass the info on to them. Nice list ferris. I forgot another one. The Sea Food Shack in Hilton Head SC. It is a dive with a couple of Rastafarian's for cooks reggae playing in the background and everyone singing along a really good time. And the food was good and reasonably priced. |

There is a Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester, NY too. It started as a roadside BBQ stand run by three bikers, and took off from there. There are certain chain restaurants I look for on the road, too. I can't resist Cracker Barrel, for example. I also MUST have breakfast at Waffle House when I'm south of the Mason Dixon line. And finally, when I'm in Ohio, I HAVE to have lunch at least once at Skyline Chili. |

Prince's Hot Chicken Shack 123 Ewing Dr Nashville, TN 37207 (615) 226-9442 They don't advertise and haven't in the past eighteen years, but word of mouth has allowed customers to keep up with Prince's as they've moved locations throughout the city. Loyal followers of this fiery fried goodness can order the chicken in three flavors—mild, medium, or hot—and it's served on grease-soaked white bread with sliced pickles on top. Whether you prefer hot or mild, be prepared wait in line and then wait up to half an hour for your fare because the chicken isn't dropped into the skillet until it's ordered. (I call ahead) And it's not for those with a sensitive stomach, Prince's warns. "It's a 24 hour chicken," and it sure is addictive. After the consuming the fire, it always fun to go cool of with an milkshake from a old fashion soda shop. Elliston Place Soda Shop 2111 Elliston Place Nashville, TN (615) 327-1090 She likes it. I'm sorry but I've never had good BBQ north of Kentucky. I don't think it even deserves to be called BBQ. It ought to be renamed "Grilled food with sweetened tangy sauce". Everything has been either burnt to a crisp or still breathing on the plate. The sauce was always on the side. |

hahahaha! Reminds me of a trip to Baltimore! I was 12 and with my family. I told the waitress at this breakfast place my order. Couple eggs over easy, sausage, grits and some biscuits and gravy. The entire restaurant looked at me like I had stood up and said "Hi my name is Ahkmed and I'm with Al Qaeda". The lady said that they didnt know what I was asking for. So the cook came out and asked me how to make a grit! As in one singular piece! After my dad stopped laughing he told the guy it was like cream of wheat made with corn, and just get me some of that with lots of butter in it. Then they sent out dinner rolds with brown gravy that tasted like au jus with a roux added to it. again the flabergasted cook was called out. next time i go up there i'm bringing my own grits and gravy. |
