71 DAYS!! |

A question: How long does it take to ride from Suches to the Vortex or to Stone Mtn Buell/H-D, at night, after a long day driving, or driving while dragging a small trailer in a medium-small car, assume generally around the speed limit, normal lighting on the bike. Mapquest shows it as around 80 miles or so, but somehow I don't think their minutes is correct (says 1hr 40min). I'm kinda halfway thinking that if I do make it, to check in to a tent spot at TWO, unshackle the bike (coin flipping between the S2 and M2), then riding to the Vortex for a burger and a pic with the bike in front of it, then head back to the tent at TWO. Am I nuts? |

The Vortex run sounds like it would be fun, and from the website the food & servers look pretty damn good. |

I figured that if I ever got down that way that I'd definitely have to invade their clubhouse for a burger and soda. |

I would love to go, but talking one of our local hosts into a guided tour may be hard. The Atlanta traffic is a nightmare any time of day and it would be a major suck fest Friday night. |

I was thinking of getting there on a Thursday sometime late in the day, then Atlanta early evening hopefully after the worst of the traffic has died down. Maybe meet up with a local or two at Stone Mountain and head to the Vortex from there. I won't know if I'm going until February sometime so I'm just kicking the idea around some now. |

I would love to go Thursday but I don't think I will be at TWO until after 6. Then I will need to set up camp and all that fun stuff! |

Two from Houston will be arriving Thursday night instead of Friday like we originally planned. We managed to both catch our bosses in a good mood and got Thursday off too. Right now we're still planning to get a motel in Dahlongea so we can get away from the crowd at TWO when we've had enough for the day. I haven't heard anything from anyone else in Houston. You guys are welcome to group up with us for the trip. For that matter, if there's a larger group than ours coming from Texas, we'd love to hook up with you too. Let us know - PM... If anyone along the way wants to hook up, well that's be just peachy keen too. I saw a post above from somebody in LA. Let me know if you want to catch us when we roll by Thursday mid-morning. |

That would be my schedule too if I make it, hence the riding at night aspect. Not sure how the deer and other critters are down that way after the sun goes down. I'm looking at about 14 hours or so driving time from Milwaukee to Suches, 800+ miles. I may have to rethink this some. Would probably be comparable to driving from Sacramento CA to Seattle WA, then offloading the bike and riding to Yakima and back. Yep, might have to rethink this some. Still got 70 or so days to think more. |

This location:
My wife's grandson has a video game with a shot of the Vortex in it. Not sure he believes me when I say I know people who go to the real place. |

If y'all decide to go to the V on Thursday (Bike Night) I'd meet y'all there. I've not been in quite a while. It's never too late to start wasting your life. |

The Vortex is a LONG ride from TWO. Not in mileage per say, but I would not ride that far after riding 60 or 180 all day, unless you aren't keeping pace with my 3%er's. I wouldn't even go in a four wheeled vehicle. Speaking of which, I'll probably be heading that way this week for a Yokahama Mama burger and a Guinness! See you suckas in Suches! then Atlanta early evening hopefully after the worst of the traffic has died down You out of town guys are too f***ing funny! Good luck with that! Smokescreen |

Hey, I try. I did find some traffic cameras, doesn't look too bad right now http://www.georgia-navigator.com/cameras Note sure if this will work or not: But that was why I asked the question about how long it really takes or how doable it is. So, does TWO have a restaurant or is there one nearby? How about a grocery store nearby? |

I passed through Atlanta back in July and that traffic sucked a 4am! See! My point exactly. I know that of which I speak, I've lived here for 28 years. I love watching out-of-towners here trying to drive here, just stay out of the left lane unless your going at least 20 over, or else someone might just run you off the road! Smokescreen |

So a couple of cans of chili as backup and I'll be good to go. |
