2 years ago I picked up a 1970 Triumph TR6R(seen below)  But I'm not sure what to do... Oh my... My dad has given me first dibs on a hard tail frame with factory geometry, so no chopper looking long/tall bike. Thinking It might be good cause I'll be lowered about 8" or so kinda like this...  But with fewer mods and just as cool would be a cafe bike. I like the aggressive riding position and the sport bike of yesterday look...  | ||

That Cafe'd TriTon you show has a Norton Featherbed Rolling Chasis and 1950's Triumph Pre-Unit engine. I recommend just detailing it out stock, and riding the hell out of it. Good luck with your project. Hex | ||

I'd just freshen up the engine and keep it as is. It's too close to original to chop. There are plenty of basket cases that would be better suited as choppas. Ever heard of choppahead choppers? yea I've heard of them and also am familiar with alot of the Brit bike customizing groups like Southern Fried Choppers, Bullet Proof Motorbikes, Flyrite Choppers, there was a guy in Tennessee that I worked with named HackASaw, and he had hands down the best Triumphs I have ever seen EVER. Wicked tig welded hand made stainless everything. I worked for him for roughly 2 weeks being a general shop b!tch. But i got to work the lathe, Cinncinatti Mill, and try my hand at TIG welding a few things. But the guy is a total pr!ck and I guess I burnt that bridge long ago. | ||

Drag bars, Holey brakes, ( vent & lightening holes ) rearsets maybe. Keep the fork boots. New, reservoir shocks. Decide if you want to carry a passenger or not. I would. That's less radical & more stock than the cafe shown above, which is my second choice. Or go to a 5 foot sissy bar, apehangers & foot rests, all twisted square stock.  | ||

Good original ones, are increasingly hard to find. I'd say keep it stock & tidy it up, not to show-queen standard, too much cleaning, just smart & rideable. If you Cafe it, with a single seat, you can't take a girl on the back to experience the vibes either. If you leave it stock you can ride around pretending to be Steve McQueen too. I reckon you'll get a lot more admiring looks with it stock, than chopped. Trouble is, the admiring looks will be from old gits like me, not tasty young chickies!!  | ||

yep, keep it stock or near stock. theres not many bikes like that about anymore except in museums or collections. just ride it sometimes, i hate hearing about bikes that arent ridden, its such a waste | ||

The first thing I would do is get rid of those mufflers. I would go with either stock or Dunstall type mufflers. Get the bike cleaned up and some chickie may ask if she can tickle your carburetor. | ||

I would try and find the original stock mufflers for it and restore it to completely stock form. | ||

For my $0.02 I have to say that I'd like to see you cafe it and keep the stock parts so that it could be restored back to original. | ||

Hey guys- if y'all are interested, I have a 1968 Trophy 650 (TR6R) in original unrestored condition. It's missing the tank rack, forward header bracket and the original instruments- otherwise, it's all there. Starts on 1 or 2 kicks. For sale. Also- got a 1982 BMW R65, nice. Both are on Craigslist- I'll get around to posting them here later. | ||

It has been years since I bothered to post on Cycle World, but "Hacksaw" not "HackAsaw", is a pr!ck, lives in Connecticut and has modest skills - not a bike builder....He is into HD, Triumph, BMW and Ducati but is not the guy you are referring too. | ||

Hacksaw and the people who insist on arguing with him is why I don't go on their forum anymore.... He is a very interesting character and knows a lot about older bikes, but is too abrasive for me.
