This was posted on ATC
Talked to a sales manager at a local dealer yesterday. (Know him pretty well, bought 7 bikes from there). Said all he knows so far for sure, is that new sportsters do have rubber mounted motors (did not know if Evo or Buell), stretched tanks, and a 150 series rear tire.

I also read that Harley is going to ramp up production big time on the sporty, they feel the sales are going to sky rocket.

The V-rod is going to be the same basic bike just with a black frame & a 2 tone black & silver motor. Also different body colored panels. Thats why it has a B at the end.

Hmm a 1200R sporty..interesting.

FLHRS

Looking at the letters I dont recall Harley using an RS for any baggers. I wonder if thats going to be the V-rod powered Bagger?

If it is, I bet Harley sells a shitload of em. Also if the Sporty turns out like I think it will, the wife might actually be getting one. Never cared for the solid mounted ones, but a rubber mount is sounding good.

FLH makes it a Twin-Cam bagger, R makes it a Road Glide, and S mates it the sport model. If it was a VR based touring bike, I'd be something like VRTCI, if HD's alphabet soup holds true.

The FXRT was my favorite bagger. Good fairing and the best ground clearance.

Crusty,

"None of that pansy rubber mounting crap for us"

What do you think is holding that engine in your bike?

FLHS was the "Electra-Glide Sport" It was replaced some years back (about '95) with the FLHR "Road King", which is a chromier version.

FLHT is the "Electra-Glide Standard", so it sounds like the FLHRS might be a combination of sorts. But with Harley's alphabet soup of lettering, who knows? (anony does)

This is the new V-rod...Black frame & motor accents. Slightly different instrument cluster supposedly.

Oh yea, looks like I may owe Crusty a pepsi. Appears right now Harley is going to stick with the same 1200 sporty motor for 1 more year. At least thats what it looks like according to the parts books.

4.2 gallon tank, 1 main fuse to disable everything, larger oil tank capacity, same trans gearing & possibly rear end gearing as the Buells.

Rubber mounting for the Sportsters is all but confirmed. A local salesman that has seen the bikes called it a "mini dyna". Vertical oil filter, plastic pushrod covers, and 150 series rear tire.

A bunch of photos are up on the V-Twin Forum, at http://www.harleydavidsonforum.com. You have to register first, then look under "VRSC Motorcycle Family Discussions" for a post titled "Photos from the 2004 Dealer's Booklet".

The new Sportster motor is rubber mounted. I saw prototypes of the black V-Rod last summer, as well as some cool anodized ones. Red and blue if I recall correctly. I have a nice group of 'friends' working for H-D that let me see stuff I'm not supposed to.
