I think Rocket may have possibly just realized, in his own brick headed way, that anony is probably on track.

Rocket,
I suspect that when Buell unveils their new machine next week, the erroneous reporting of MCN will be exposed for us all to clearly see. If not, you are certainly free to gloat and deride anony for his arrogance. If so, you may owe anony an apology. If anony had known that MCN was so intimately connected to your sensitive parts, he may have worded his criticism more gently. Or not. LOL

Thank you anony, and thank you to those who support the efforts of anony in our little Buellish corner of the web.

Surely we can understand that anyone with integrity would be very sure not to violate their promise to both Buell and the press concerning premature divulgence of any details about an upcoming new product release. Thankfully, anony is a person of high integrity. You can take what anony says to the bank.

Expecting to have details revealed days in advance is just not cool. We all want to know, but to expect someone in the know to divulge secret info before zero hour, that is uncool. We of course wouldn't complain if some anony were to post a brief summary just hours prior to or even coincident with the real world unveiling. (hint) :]

Blake

PS: The only "shithead" or "coward" that I see here is the guy hurling such insults via a web forum. I'd be most appreciative if we could all please refrain from that type of dialogue here.

Blake darling I respect your writing to me off the board wrt the anonymous situation and I further respect the needs of a Buell employee or two who might have or might want to contribute valuable information here on Badweb but looking back over the years I'm in somewhat of a quandary. Where are or which are these valuable contributions anonymously ours from Buell insiders? Seems to me they actually contribute next to bugger all that needs to be on a hush hush basis other than stuff that protects them from any legal encumbrances.

Sure I can see some tech stuff they may wish to draw our attention to and it might well be something to do with American law that these posts need to be anonymous, hypothetically speaking 'I fixed my Buell wrong because some tech guy from Buell showed me the way to go via Badweb and that's why my brakes failed and I ran over the neighbours prize winner dachshund' could be perhaps a quantifiable need to post anonymous but other than that what are these anonymous Buell insiders bringing us? A scoop perhaps? What scoop? 'Ah yes Buell brethren, here's a scoop for you direct from Buell (anonymously of course), those muffler mount clamps that keep breaking. In a few weeks Buell will start shipping upgraded clamps to its dealer network and current Buell owners of X Y and Z models will receive a letter through the post confirming this free of charge upgrade and inviting them to their dealer to have said upgrade carried out'.

IMO it's all well and good for the insiders to be here anonymously if it's for our betterment but I believe them to be in a position where they could actually give us something back in return for our loyalty that would cost them absolutely zilch, insider information to wet our appetites, that's all. Seems only fair considering Buell use this forum anonymously to argue their take on the way they see things that affect their passions, like say racing, or lack of it in Buell's case.

In the meantime Blake you said I think Rocket may have possibly just realized, in his own brick headed way, that anony is probably on track. If by that you are referring to suffice to say, any new Buell product introduced then will be more exciting than the machine described in MCN well that's a truck load of info direct from a Buell source. Remind me next week to thank him for that wonderful news! Shame they didn't tell us that bit in MCN. Anyway in the interest of fair play I've emailed MCN for their comments with regard to this thread.

So, Rocket, is your point that the "Anonymous" insiders ought to spill their guts here simply because we're interested?

If so, consider that they may actually enjoy their jobs and want to keep them. Violating the confidence of one's employer is generally good for a ticket to the unemployment office...

Rocket, I agree with you 100%.
I have a friend who worked for Harley-Davidson. He went online and made a few statements about a situation that he thought was extremely unfair. A couple of weeks later, he was escorted out of the building without warning. People who could lose their jobs should be allowed to speak their opinions. However, being anonymous removes a large amount of credibility from any statement that's made.

There are two key points that came from anonymous posts on the subject of the 2004 bike(s).

The July 14 date we are all hanging on was posted anonymously, and an anonymous poster clearly stated that there was no truth to the V-Rod motor rumor. Personally, that's exactly what I want.

Sure I'm curious, and I'd like to have all the information now, but remember, this forum is public. If we get the info here, everyone will have it. I'd like to see Buell keep a bit of a "Wow" factor. If all the details are publicly posted ahead of time, everyone will just say: "yeah, we already knew that" when the cover comes off.

Getting bits and pieces ruins the fun. It's like reading the last page of a book first or knowing the plot of a movie before you go (or finding out what your Christmas present will be a week before you open it).

Keep in mind also that if real technical details start showing up on this web page, Buell will crack down and make sure nobody posts anything.

I would certainly support Blake being invited to the introduction (If he wasn't. It seems Court was there), but if he goes, he'll have to keep the info under wraps just like everyone else.

Anyone who doubts the effectiveness of Blake's system, take a look at any other web site out there. I think that within 7 days you will find that there was much, much, much more accurate information posted on this web site than any ohter site out there.

I hate constantly siding with the Rocket, for fear of being lumped into some sort of polarization, but he speaks the truth. I have been a Buell die hard since '97. I may not post a lot, but I do lurk frequently, and have no problem identifying myself when expressing an opinion!

I really don't understand all the protectionism surrounding Anon. If some executive higher ups that may be participating as anon, really did respect what the Badweb offers Buell, they would understand the scepticism of its members regarding anonymous postings.

I don't understand. Blake has credibility, no? Blake says this person or people he's allowing to post anon have credibility and a legitimate reason to do so. Isn't that good enough?

What if I back him up? I do, by the way.

Personally, I'm grateful that they take the time to participate here. Sure, it's a very limited participation, but it's a damn sight better than nothing. They've posted a lot of information that we wouldn't otherwise have, and on occassion they've stepped in and helped in individual problem situations. Fercrissakes, be thankful for that instead of demanding that they spill the beans on new products, which I don't think is reasonable at all.

This extreme curiousity is actually pretty humorous. I don't know any more about this new model or models than y'all do, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest that the insiders are being tight lipped. And I agree with the others, they should be tight lipped.

doesn't anyone here remember a couple of years ago when rumors started circulating about a radical new bike from Buell that had "fuel in the frame" and "oil in the swingarm" and people saying "no way!!!"?? The anons in question are not permitted to tell us what the new model is but I for one appreciate them going out on a limb and telling us what it is not. As for disclosing early to just us badwebbers, sure, it would never leave this web site, right? ;)

Why? Who would be hurt? The competition already knows all about the new bike, so they won't be able to get some advantage over Buell or H-D. What would be wrong with letting the people who are loyal to the marque know what to look forward to? Sometimes Paranoia is not a good thing.

I, personally, appreciate any info (vague or not) from inside sources.

And, as far as I've been able to see, any annony post on this board that wasn't legit had the poster "outted" almost instantly. Thus, since these Annony's have stayed that way, they have a degree of validity.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. 8)

I really cant see what the anon's have done other than to keep up a elitist know it all attitude among the in the know crowd.
IMHO, nothing more has come from anon than an out in the open customer service rep from the factory could present, and honestly probably even less.
I do respect the mother ships very practical trade secret and business secret rights, and those people that have the responsibility not to break their employment contracts. Anon has no credibility because they give little or nothing, and risk nothing, yet ask for something, too much.

None of you have a clue of the radical new aerodynamic wind tunnel tested 2004 Buell P4Me hiding in the wings. It exceeds all environmental expectations since it will be totally electric. Standard equipment includes the infamous 315° 405° 315° 405° 315° 405° 315° 405° prerecorded sound which is synchronized with the electric motors RPM. Black axel nut covers are standard equipment as are the billet foot pegs. An optional high version (shown in the first image below ...... thicker seat i.e.) of the P4Me will be available for taller riders.

Donn:

As we both know, there have been instances where persons, either lacking in fortitude or an understanding of how BWB works, have used the "Anonymous" provision to launch cowardly attacks on other members of the BWB community. We are in agreement that there is something very wrong when "they give little or nothing, and risk nothing".

I have always held the belief that providing the capacity for anonymous posting just opens the door for sniping, flaming and character attacks by the few spineless weenies that occasionally land here. I do grudgingly admit that in spite of the abuses, the level of contribution by legitimate anonymous posters more than makes up for damage done by the cowards.

I salute Blake's ongoing efforts to "out" the abusers while keeping the channels open to those that have constructive contributions for the BWB community.

Dammn Don, you hold a grudge don’t ya! ha haa funny...hmm did I strike too close to home ? I am not sniping now, and even if I was, the point is no less valid. You agree with me!
Blake, whom I respect and have best regards for, has his own very valid reasons for hosting anon. Good for him. My opinion is that anon is not worthy and has not IMHO delivered to the same level that Blake has respected him, and you too Don for your tireless efforts here.
Can you give any significant list of real contributions by anon? Not the chummy insider only wink wink stuff please.
Where is any real scoop? A significant reward to the defenders of the faith? The real insider info by any quantifiable measure? Again respecting legal obligations and commitment, where is the reward to Blake, to us ?
If there is not a quantifiable one, then the anon tag is a sham and in the interest of integrity should be over.

Donn:

My perspective is based upon my more than several years on BWB. Although in this thread and on this subject Anon may not have been as forthcoming as we would like, he has been a huge help in dozens of other instances to a wide variety of BWBers. This coming from someone who has had several fundamental ideological disagreements with Anon on more than one occasion.

I would hope that you might be able to take my word for this as I do not have the time and energy to back into the archives and abstract his contributions for you. I know for a fact that he has been a constant contributor and critical component in the development of the Team Elves LSR efforts. That alone makes him OK in my book.

I really don't have much interest in what MCN reports, doesn't report, reports inaccurately or delusionally. My opinion on what Buell provides its faithful in 2004 will have to be exclusively based on what is delivered to my local dealership and hopefully experienced through a test ride. To the same degree, as long as Anon is not using his privilege to attack or debase others, I find little in what he has contributed on this subject to be worthy of much concern. The preceding paragraph is a bandwidth squandering token attempt to bring my very opinionated ramblings into “on topic” parameters.

The anonymous function here serves a purpose, it's not a game. It has provided keen insight, in portions that are appropriate and, like Deep Throat, has served to steer us, as owners, in the proper direction when we've wandered astray.

The anonymous postings have never violated corporate security, but have served to make this a valuable online venue.

Blake could have used more diplomatic language. Rocket stirs things, but he's a valuable member of the group. Our diversity, in terms of geography, perspective and opinion makes us all the better.

To have a different view on things,
Dues not have to mean we have to dislike one another,
As in a good relation,

buell riders in particular, are a breed off there one. Standing out and sometimes making point in having a buell.

Yea big deal! Some employee of BMC comes on and spills the beans to us "anointed insiders" because we read a web board. Nothing else make us worthy other than the facts that:

A: We might ride a Buell.

B: We can point an internet browser to a URL.

Anon does not owe us anything. It's not in his job or life description to give us the inside poop. By vilifying anon you now run the risk of him/her having second thoughts when some really important information is being withheld by the MOCO.

I for one put the product release in my own perspective. Say you planned a huge Birthday party (new product announcement) for your significant other (we the public). The anticipated outcome of this surprise party was a nocturnal romp (Maintaining current sales while boosting new product sales) because you went to so much trouble. Now suppose your S/Os best friend (an insider) spills the beans just because. All your stealth work just went down the crapper. I'm very familiar with product launches. They are events for the sake of events. A great deal of time and expense goes into them. Let Buell have their day.

Just my $.02

JT

I think the main thing that anon was trying to accomplish was not letting everyone get their hopes for a bigger, better Buell get ruined by a questionable story from a possibly questionable publication. I appreciate this since I am in the market for a new buell since my 2001 X1 was totaled a couple of months ago. At first glance the article left me disappointed, and I am the skeptical type. Also, posting as "anon" may also allow him to put food on the table for his family a little while longer, who can't respect that? Anyway, I love this site, don't post often but think it is a great place for people with a similar interest but differing opinions to meet.
Thanks to Anon and the hosts of all of our rants.

o.k. Last post on this topic then i will go back to lurk mode...I promise.

Jeff, when are you coming out to bike night again miss seeing you on the road, but I have to disagree with you big time here pal. This is not a surprise party.

IMHO, When anon’s, posts as an insider, he/she is effectively representing the Buell factory…and yes the Buell factory does owe us! Why does anon post here? Is he paid to do so prolly not! We represent the customer! That’s why. They care about us the faithful, the ones who fly the Buell flag! We do so in hard times in defense of our “donkey kit pos” ( to our other riding friends.) We are comrades, yes Court in our diversity, not alike but we are owed dammit! Perhaps you are right Aaron, its not the anon who posts here I have an issue with.

OK then Mr. Jeff Bluestein:
We are not asking for a look at the 5 year business plan, or the top secret 2008 drawings...fer christ sake we want to see 4 days in advance the production bike? Is that such a bad thing to ask? To give us the core money spenders, the supporters, the people whose ideas and enthusiasm support the different in every sense?
Why do what the typical Jap marketing does? Why not a product launch in the Buell club world?
Yes were owed. No one wants Eric Buell not to have his day. I understand NDA and product secrets and Intellectual Property, but do not believe your own press releases, or fire your people for working with customers.Your product needs us more than we need you.
