If your weather in the upstate was anything like ours in the lowcountry, I'm sure it was a great day for it.

276 is a nice piece up to Caesar's Head is a nice piece of road:

and 178 a few miles west is good too:

Wish I could be up there riding tomorrow too.

Glad ya'll got to get out!! I took a little excursion myself today, it was glorious.
If Diann gets to feeling bad about keeping up with you in those curves, we'll have to let her ride with me some. It would do her good to have to stop and wait on somebody else!!

just as long as she's in the lead she does fine. it's when she follows that she lags behind quite a bit. even if i'm slowing down she slows down to so i try to let her be ahead as much as i can. good to see you got out today ed. posted over on the tale section to.

My wife does exactly the same thing on her Blast! It is irritating to have to continually 'back up' to keep her in sight. She claims she is looking at scenery! I tell her to watch the road and ride, Dammit!

If she is leading she does fine because she feels like she is 'driving'. When behind me she feels like she is in the passenger seat.
Would it be Ok to shoot her if she has repeatedly ignored me about drifting back and we end up riding 25 mph in 45 zones?

It is really annoying, but even more than that it is dangerous because she keeps letting cars get between us and I have to use the mirrors 200% more and keep pulling off for her to catch up. She doesn't see a problem with holding up a line of cars that are forced to pass her because she is riding below the speed limit and they are right on her butt(she knows better because of the riding classes she took and passed with honors).

When we are with a group she does fine. When she rides in front of me she does fine(but she doesn't know the roads or where to turn). Neil, if you can figure out how to fix this let me know!

No.
But, making her ride above her comfort zone might produce the same result. A dead wife or girl friend. So, might I suggest leaving her at home?

Glitch,

Over in Storm Fronts, we've talked about having a Bueller gathering up there some time.

You can make a nice route by starting out on 276 (near the bottom of the first map), going up the mountain to Caesar's Head State Park. "Caesar's Head" is a rock formation on the side of the mountain that's supposed to look like Caesar's head (duh). It's a short walk from the parking lot. After that, you continue on to Brevard, NC where you can grab lunch (there are plenty of restaurants). Then you take 64 south/west to Rosman, and 178 south back to SC. 178 may actually be the better of the two roads; there's less traffic and the twisties seem to last a little longer. About half-way down, there is a narrow bridge with concrete sides in the middle of a set of turns that will cause major sphincter contractions if you're not careful. (Hard left-dip-bridge-hard right). 178 eventually hits 11, the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Parkway, which you can take west towards Atlanta (it'll eventually take you back to I-85) or east to Greenville.

There are other great roads in the area, especially north of Brevard. It'd be a great place for a Buell gathering sometime.

276 on up to the Blue Ridge is nice, too.

We came down 178 last summer from Rosman, I was with my friend Chuck, from Hendersonville. Some of you guys may know him.

We're ripping along, come around a corner, and there's a tree across the road! Sphincter contraction indeed.

You're right, great riding in that area. If I ever leave Florida, I'll consider moving there.

Teeps,

I never MAKE her do anything(couldn't if I wanted to). She is not beyond her comfort zone, she just zones out as if she were sight seeing from the passenger seat in a car that I was driving. She says that when she is riding with me she is too comfortable in that I wouldn't lead her into trouble. She doesn't do it when riding with anyone else. So far I think Neil is the only one, other than me, that has continually experienced this with his spouse.

As far as leaving her home, I don't ask her to ride. She will ask me to get her bike out.

Neil, there are SO many good roads between here and there! Next time my son comes up with his Road Pig I plan to drag him that way!

Etenn and Nevr
In the brief time I rode with my wife, I never had that problem. As a matter of fact, I nearly killed my self trying to keep up with her!!!
But I felt compelled to remind you guys, never forget to count your blessings. Even if things are not plumb perfect, having your wife out there riding with you is a marvelous thing!

that is so twew, so twew. she just has a hard time realizing that she is better than she thinks she is. coming back up with becky following me, wasn't hard to tell that she had a wild streek about her. she could ride that bike.

eten, by all means let me know when you plan on getting over around that area.

glitch, sorry i let the cat out of da bag. me and tailspining went back up on sunday without the wife and it started rainging along with the fog going up that mountain. i don't think exlax could have unpuckered the spincter by the time we got up to the park and then we just decided to back the same way because he didn't feel that it would have been any better had we kept going into NC. one scary road.
