Have been wanting to change careers from tooling engineer/CAD monkey for a while now and I see an ad for 36 month apprenticeship program at a local refinery that pays more starting out than I currently make as an engineer. I'm tired of being chained to a desk and computer for 10 hours a day, but I seem to be either over or under qualified for every other alternative job I've looked at. I figure maybe with a degree I'll have a leg up on a lot of guys coming off the street, but the big question is: What can I expect this job to be? I prefer something that will let me move around and be more physical, and I would also enjoy more interaction with my co-workers (maybe supervisory). My job options are limited in here in Michigan, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Let's hear some input from the petroleum industry guys. Everybody says I should sell bikes........but I'm not quite sure about the world of commissioned sales. Thanks Tom K |
