Hello everyone, not sure if this is the correct place for this but here it goes. i currently ride a Harley and i an thinking of selling it and getting a Buell.I have owned jap sportbikes in the past, but they have no soul. Been doing some reading and figured either the 12Ss or the TT would be best. I understand the technical differences and wondering how they translate to the real world. So those of you that have owned or ridden both. What are the pros and cons? | ||

It all boils down to whether you'll be wanting to carry a passenger (XB12Ss) or not (XB12STT). | ||

Well you can get a passenger kit for the SuperTT. I have a TT I think the longer travel the TT has makes it a better bike (WHERE I RIDE) the road bite big time here. On smoother roads it 12Ss would be no problem I'd think. You also sit up on the TT like a big ol' dirt bike. Other than that there are ALMOST the same bike. BTW the kit is around $300.00 | ||

You can add a Ss seat and passenger pegs to a STT as a kit offered from Buell. Basicly, you can make a long suspension travel Ss out of your STT, so if you like the longer suspension, go with the STT. There is also a $300 difference in the price of the 2 bikes. The passenger seat kit is only about $450, so for only $150 more you can have the best of both worlds. | ||

The ergos on the bikes are just a lil bit different. The biggest difference on the riding triangle for the TT, is that bikes taller bars. From a riders stand point the SS has the more comfortable seat (IMO) All the parts are pretty much interchangeable with a lil bit of work. So if you find yourself liking on part off of one bike vs the other, there is a lot of interchangability. Let the Legg-o building begin. | ||

At Homecoming, Mr Buell himself said the TT was the best handling bike they have ever made. With that in mind I would go for the TT. Also, my local dealer has had 3 TTs sitting on the floor since they came out. They haven't sold ONE! SOOOOO they have changed out the plastics, removed the number plates, installed passenger pegs, new seat and dropped the price to 9500.00 Shop around, you may find a smokin' deal on one. | ||

I love mine and CityxSlicker needs one as they go like snot on dirt! I ran down a heavily graveled road with a friend and he slowed WAY down (to about 20) I on the other hand grabbed a big ol' handful and cranked her up to about 50-60! The bike tracks great,right where you point it. Pulls like a tractor, the brakes are sweet not grabby or fade prone. I do hate the front fender though. Looks mean BUT lets the wheel throw everything right out front to blow back in my face. I'll get a low mount one from a Lighting or Firebolt after Christmas. The seats not bad but it really doesn't go all the way back like it looks. There's some kind of bar running side to side about half way back, right where the "Step" would be in a XB12Ss saddle. Behind that it's just a thin piece of foam and the cover. Plus it really needs a Drummer and of course I just got to have a race ECU and K&N filter! Of course it's snowing and raining here today so I guess I'll look for toys to add! OH yeah the rear number plates came off the day I got her home. I want to add a small pair off bags to her and the plates are in the way, I'm not "Boy Racer"! Birdy (Message edited by birdy on November 17, 2007) | ||

One more vote for the TT. Under the funny looking beak and number plates is a more versatile and more capable Lightning. | ||

I've ridden both and in my opinion, the TT is the best handling bike Buell makes. (I haven't ridden the 1125R yet) I do like the Kawasaki Versys as well. Ken (Message edited by blasterd on November 17, 2007) | ||

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if I bought a TT I'd have to go ahead and budget money for several changes. New seat, new covers. It'd end up a cross between the Uly and the SS. OK, after looking again at the specs of these bikes, the TT saves you $1200 over the Uly and .4 inches of seat height. You give up a more versatile windscreen, and a bigger (more comfortable?) seat. You can add the Ss seat and passenger pegs, and I believe you can add aftermarket hard luggage to that setup as well. Compared to the Ss, you save $200, but spend more than that on the seat and pegs if you want to change them out. The Ss is .9 inches lower than the TT. I personally like the looks of the Ss better. And the Ss would be cheaper for me by the time I made the changes to the TT. The only advantage I can see to the TT is the greater suspension travel if that is an advantage to you. I guess if I really wanted a Uly, but needed the .4 inch lower seat height I would go with the TT and live with the limitations it places on you. I am not sure the greater suspension travel would benefit me, though, so I'd probably go with the Ss. But that is just me. It seems that most think the TT is the way to go. I own a TT and I recommend it highly to anyone who will listen!  I love the looks of many of the other Buell models, but a quick test-ride made me decide that that TT was indeed the bike for me. Actually, I really like the looks of the TT as it is, and it has attracted the attention of many people who have seen it because it really looks different. As far as handling, the TT is the best handling bike I have ever ridden. It makes me feel like a better rider because it just soaks up all the crappy pavement that used to make me slow down in corners, and it still lets me change my line while cornering. I've been riding since the mid-seventies, and I've owned a bunch of different sportbikes, but despite the higher horsepower and spec-sheet "superiority" of these other bikes, my STT is my favorite bike in a looooong time. We'll see how I feel when the 1125r arrives, but I suspect the STT will still be a great bike in my opinion. George | ||

I didn't realize the TT had higher bars, thats interesting. I sat on one at the dealer, and that thing fit like a ***glove***. My ideal bike would be my 9sx plastics and seat, on that TT, with a 1200cc motor but with the XB9 stroke. With my hid and heated grips. And GPS mount.  I looked at a TT next to a 9sx the first time, and was amazed to see that it looks like the 9sx is actually the taller bike. I didn't break out the tape measure, so it could have been an optical illusion. I'd like to lower my 9sx foot pegs an inch (but keeping the old pegs around to put back on for track days). And now you have me thinking about raising my bars an inch or so as well. Hmmmmmm... | ||

Having voted on this issue w/my wallet, I just found out yesterday that my '08 TT is in the crate and on the way. Mega YEE HAAS's!!! Have to be content with just looking at it for some time, though, until spring gets here. I prefer the upright riding position, and really like the looks. The added "cush" from the longer suspension travel doesn't hurt, either. As to changes (don't we all?) I already have the axle sliders and a volt meter, thanks to American Sport Bike. An S front fender will be a must, and of course luggage for the upcoming MotoGP trip. Will wait and see about changing the seat. Then just the normal PM involved with prepping a new bike. HAD they had the TT when I was buying, I would have bought the TT. What is a gut punch is that if you look at my bike , built in March of 2006 (6 months before the TT was anounced 9 months before it hit the floor) You will see that I was already going that direction. The taller clearance is nice, the bigger fuel tank is great, the tires are more aggressive for all condition riding, the hand guards are added bene. Doing it again it would be the TT for me. (But I still love my CityX esp with new improved ground clearance)  | ||

This all came about because the wife decided she wants to ride. So i get off the HD and finally into something more "entertaining". My HD looks kick ass but handles like crap. I will prolly by around late winter. We both get new bikes! | ||

I am real glad to see this post. I have been trying to decide what Buell to get when Im have the money. I have loved the looks of the SS. The functulality of the Uly and the bad-ass looks of the TT. Now Ill be going for the TT. Great post. | ||

I can agree about some of the TT styling. But since most of the plactics seem to swap out i can make it original, im thinking all black. Wife has decided she wants a hd sportster which is cool. Similar engines will make service easier for me. She would have considered the blast if it had more motor. | ||

I have a 2006 SS, but I'd probably get the TT if I were buying an XB today. From what I've experienced on the track, I believe they are easier to ride quickly, and handle even better than my XBSS. AND, once you remove the fake number plates, and color match all the plastic, they look bad ass! | ||
