I just bought one of these carbon fibre helmets at a great price ($280)it is marketed as being manufactured by the top selling helmet manufacturer in the USA.....anyone know anything about this helmet or have I bought a dud....the deal seems too good to be true as an average helmet (basic Arai) costs $400+ here in Ireland. Sorry if I shouldn't have posted in this forum - Admin move this post if need be. | ||

Well, HJC claims to the #1 seller in the US for 14 years. They are manufactured in Korea though. One of the better reviewing web-sites (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/mot orcycle-helmets.htm ) says they are comparable in quality to Arai. I just tried on the carbon one at the IMS motorcycle show last weekend, I will probably be buying one soon too. Real good deal for the money. I've used Arai Signets for the last 18 years or so. The HJC fits me just as well, I've a Long Oval head. | ||

Are they that much lighter than conventional? Or is it just for the CF look? | ||

The weight chart on the site linked above shows it to be just under half a pound lighter than an Arai Profile. It is also about $100 cheaper than the Profile, based on monitoring eBay for the last 6 months. $345 Profile vs. $258 HJC. My subjective assessment is I can feel the difference in weight. I tried both on at the MC show, within a moment of each other. | ||

I tried one on, i liked it but it felt no lighter than my shark helmet that i picked up for 271. Food for thought. |
