I am heading to Brandon HD to ride all the Buells tomorrow(Friday 11/9). If there are any board members who will be there, I will be the old fat guy showing up on a Harley.

Dan,
Not going to the Demo day, ( I already went to one at Pocono and it was terrific).

I was wondering how your like you Dyna Superglide Sport, and if you could compare it to a normal Dyna Superglide.

I had a stock 2000 Dyna Superglide for a couple of months, and I really enjoyed riding it.

I was surprised how well it cornered, especially since the suspension on it was so, shall we say, crude.

Do you think that there is a really noticeable difference :

a.between the Sport and the normal models?

b. between the Sport and the newer Dyna's with the 49mm fork?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but it is very hard to get any good Harley info on the net, especially from the Buell point of view.

Jon,

I wish I could give you a better answer about how my Sport model compares to the standard Super Glide model of various vintages. The problem is I haven't ridden them. I can tell you that my shocks and forks are adjustable in ways the standard models are not. I really wish I was more knowledgeable about how to make positive changes in the settings. I hate to admit this, but I have never completely understood the settings and what effects they have on the handling of my bike. I mostly just adjust the rear shock for one up/two up riding.

I will say this, I went to NC this year, rode the Blue Ridge, Deal's Gap, and other various twisties, and the other cruiser riders in the group couldn't stay up with me when I hustled. Some of this was the fact I could corner better than them. Some of it is the fact that my FXDX, while mostly stock in the engine department, seemed to accelerate better out of corners than the guys bikes that I was riding with.

Still, the experience left me wanting more. That is why I am going to the Buell demo day. I absolutely love my FXDX. I have changed it to fit me over the years. I can ride it comfortably all day long, and I have on many occasions. But it is still a 625+ lb cruiser and I would love to experience something more capable in the curves. I hate to give up the comfort and sound of my FXDX (in its current state, it was not comfortable to me in stick trim) though. What I really want to do is keep my FXDX for when my wife rides with me and get a sportier bike for my solo riding. Unfortunately, that would mean a two year wait till I could afford to do that. So, I will go torture myself at the Buell demo day. Heading out right now.

Oh, and in addition to old and fat, I will be the balding one as well. Probably still not specific enough is it?

Need more info, such as you'll be the guy with the beard, or the guy with the leather jacket wearing boots.

I had a 2001 FXDX with a hot-rodded motor. Lots of fun in the mountains, but not as much fun as a Sportster. Which in turn is not as much fun as any Buell. (IMHO) Great all around bike however.

Thanks Dan,

I am sure you will have an enjoyable day riding the 1125R: the Buell team has really knocked themselves out to give every one a memorable experience.

If you find that you like the sport bike experience, I urge you to try a Buell XB12 S or R model as well.

These bikes offer much of the same experience as the 1125 R especially for the rider who is not at the expert level.

The 1125R has almost 3 times as much power as a Dyna, and weighs 50% less: that is a huge step up in performance that most riders, (myself included), will not be able to fully exploit.

In addition, used XB12's in excellent condition will probably be available for just about half of what a new 1125R will cost.

Finally, if you service your own Dyna, you will find that much of that experience will be directly transferable to an XB.

Have a great day!!

Shark-

Did you ever have a chance to compare a Dyna FXD with a FXDX?

I didn't get to ride the FXD, but I have put several hundred miles on a Low Rider. Very comfy, and sharp looking. Not as good handling as the DX. Less ground clearance, not as good brakes, but still fun. Probably about equal for a set of soft saddlebags and a weekend on the Blue Ridge.
