i carried a 1911 on my hip in a milt sparks versamax for several years on cruisers and on long trips on my xb. before that it was a glock 23 mexican carry in the small of my back. keeping in mind this is not the safest place to have it if you were to take a spill. luckily i wasn't carrying when i did go down. would have broken my hip! i haven't found a better/safer method than saddlebag or tank bag carry. it's tough to transition sometimes for when you leave the bike, but smaller guns (snubbies) make for easier swaps. just my .02. |

Avoid ankle holsters . . . you never know when you may pass a Highway Patrol car in New Jersey, have the wind loft your pants leg to reveal a weapon and find out your concealed weapon. Hypothetically speaking, such an oversight could cost more than $27,000 in legal fees to keep from loosing ones concealer carry permit in NYC which has the toughest concealed carry laws in the nation. . . . . Just thinking out loud . . .. . |

I rode with a friend of mine for 6 years before I found out that he always rides with a S&W J-frame in his boot. "Oh... I just carry it." Didn't have a clue he was doing it. |

All I know is I get a kick out of whacky some of the carry laws are. In New York State (outside of Metro NYC), you're supposed to be able to get a concealed carry permit - in fact, it's the only handgun permit they have. But local county judges can stamp "Hunting and Target" on the top - effectively enforicing a law they have no right to enforce. Then you go to Michigan (other states as well) and you don't need a permit to carry a pistol as long as it's NOT concealed, but you need a permit if it is concealed. I don't carry - in fact I sold my firearms not that long ago - but if I did, I'd put a holster on the handlebar. No sense in carrying a gun that you can't get to right NOW. |

I carry... Glock 22 and 27 OFF and ON duty EVERYWHERE and EVERYDAY no matter WHAT i am driving. Good thing about having a badge... Does NOT matter where I am... I can always carry.... of course the pay kinda sucks... but it does have it perks sometimes. -Matt. |

Just carry a smaller framed pistol in your pocket. You probably will not be firing while you are riding unless you are poaching or playing Polo. Firing from a moving vehicle is not safe. |

I carry a kel-tec .380 in my front pocket in a pocket holster. On my last long trip this summer, I also carried my Baby Eagle 9mm in the tank bag. |

If you can afford to buy another piece, go with a 380 or a 5 shot 38, and a inside the pant holster. I just carry a Bretta 22, so small I don't even know its there. Also in NC the state reciprocates with 20 or so other states. Nice to know. |

Try an S&W "bodyguard" shielded hammer, snub-nosed, 5-shot .357. Great little self-defense weapon and fits easily in shoulder holster or pocket. |

As a PURE sef-defense gun i would RECOMMEND a caliber LARGER than .22 lr. Will it do the job... YES.. But i have seen SEVERAL carry an entire mag of .22lr and still be able to fight and hurt others. Stopping power/ knock down power are good things to look at. There are some GREAT .40 cal COMPACT weapons on the market as well as some in .45 acp. One SHOT stops may be the ONLY round you get. -Matt. |

In Wisconsin there is no current CCW provision for non-LEO. And while technically open carry is legal, doing so can run you aground with Disorderly Conduct and other assorted charges, so basically any place you'd be prudent to carry - you can't, and any place you can - you probably don't really need to. But things are changing. If it were me, and if it were legal (since I have no criminal intent), I'd consider what happens to the firearm in the event of a laydown, low side, high side, or other incident. On the body carry, make sure it is secure in the holster. I did once strap a scabbard onto the side of the M2 once just to see what it would look like, posted a pic of it on the site here years ago. Today, I'd probably just use a tank bag and slip the sidearm into a side pocket. Then when stopped or off the bike just take the tank bag with you. Things are changing though, and there's some very interesting stuff happening in the U.S.SupremeCourt this week as well. |

There are some GREAT .40 cal COMPACT weapons on the market as well as some in .45 acp. No way I could ever CC my supposedly sub-compact GLOCK 30 - it's to big. The 30 is perfect for holster carrying though. I think I'd prefer open carrying a 30 than I would the full size 21. |

I used to carry an H&K usp compact in 40s&W pretty much everywhere I went, but I am currently without a pistol and besides which I have not gotten around to getting my MO concealed carry permit. MO is much easier to get the permit in than back in San Diego. If I hadn't shot IPSC with some of the Sheriffs deputies I never would have gotten approved because it was at the Sheriff's discretion. Usually that meant that the rich, famous, and politically powerful got them and Joe Average on the street did not. Missouri is "Shall Issue" meaning; if you can pass a safety and skill (shooting) test they have to issue the permit, also assuming you are not insane or a felon. |

Someone mentioned that a .22 is to small for self-defense. Most situations are in the ten foot range. I would think a .22 mag would do the trick. My .02$ North American Arms .22 revolver is a good choice. Another good choice is a Taurus P111 9 mm. carried in a fanny pack holster. |

Anyone have a comprehensive list of reciprocal states? I don't carry sometimes because I'm concerned a border state isn't reciprocal. TN has 9 border states. |

>>>he could go where every the heck he wanted with a gun There's a major difference in doing it and being allowed to do it. I have been known to "go wherever the heck I wanted to" and it was not within the bounds of the rules, just a choice. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think .22's have killed more people than any other weapon in history. |

I have a permit to carry in 27 states, lucky for me they are in the states that I travel in. I carry a Glock 40 (model 23) I use a sholder holdster that I fashioned my self weapon rides to my left side with grips forward very easy for a fast draw. I load with 180 HP for carry. I live next door to sheriff and get 50 practice rounds per month free. I practice fireing from bike while moving.(50 to 100 rounds per mo.) |

Here's a list of current states that have a agreement with NC. Alabama,Alaska,Arizona,Arkansas,Colorado,Delaware, Florida,Georgia,Idaho,Indiana,Kentucky,Louisiana,M ichigan,Mississippi,Montana,New Hampshire,North Dakota,Ohio,Oklahoma,Pennsylviania,South Carolina,South Dakota,Tennessee,Texas,Utah,Virginia,Washington,Wy oming, and I think it is still in progress. Court's right, a 22 have taken a lot of lives. I have a 228 9mm in SIG, a 220 in 45 in SIG, but I can carry the little 22 in so many places you don't want to know about, and I do clean it well, kinda slippery at times. And for all the fire power in the world it is still shot placement that counts!! Go to the range and practice, know your weapon!! |

I prefer the .45 for home defense, less chance of the round leaving the house than my .357 Always hoping that Wi eventually allows concealed carry... .22's are perfect-lots of ammo for little $ and size doesn't matter when its a headshot. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/118923/boom_headshot / |
