I regard the minivan as the ultimate stealth vehicle. No one notices you.
My Cyclone is Reactor Yellow. Police heads turn as I drive by. It's still invisible to cage drivers.
Since all my friends in High School that drove Muscle had to walk for at least a season, due to traffic tickets, I was a Van driver for years. It's possible to have fun in the back seat of a Camaro, but a queen size bed in a Dodge Van! A big enough engine makes them surprisingly quick too. The parties in the back with people passing from car to van to van at 70 are best not mentioned, there may still be warrants.
I always respected my lady friends. & I never actually put a "if this van's a rockin..." bumper sticker on. I still wouldn't trust my daughter with a Van owner. |

See I dunno if it falls into the wagon or SUV category but what about a `79 Bronco. Title said it was a wagon but my Bronco II was titled as an SUV.
I had a sports car too but it really made my driving mentality more aggressive. Like I had to prove something... I was a d!ckheaded jerk when I had a sportscar, but once I got into the big slow Bronco I knew I had nothing to prove. |

Hey now, I used to drive an AMC...they were Javelins (a 69, and a 72) and an AMX (a 73)
with a 304, a 360, and a 401 respectively. They were fun cars and highly under-rated.
I always wanted to build a roadrace/auto-cross rogue similar to one that used to race auto-cross
against me in the 72 back when I lived in San Francisco.
Kind of similar to the chevyII novas. It was really cool, and really quick with a 390
under the hood.
You can make an AMC cool, but it cost a lot of money to make it perform. Unless you go
the easy route and transplant a small block chevy into it.
I still want a 68-70 (the 2 seat versions) of the AMX to build a replica of the old
SCCA/trans-am series race car out of.
By the time I have enough money to do it there won't be any of the cars left at the rate
I'm going. I'd "settle" for a 70-73 Cuda/challenger or 455SD trans-am though.
Until that day I will make do with my lil' ole 9C1 Caprice. It hauls the groceries, hauls
the kids, and hauls some ass. |

Heh... one of my best friends from high school had a Dodge panel van with a sofa and Lazy Boy recliner in it. The stories I could tell (which I probably will...).
That sofa got a real workout... mainly from us just drinking beer inside and listening to the same 8-tracks over and over. None of us were the Cassanova's we thought we were back then, but, oh man did we try.
I miss that old van, I surely do. |

speaking of nissans...
Anyone been behind the wheel of one of those Nismo Offroad Frontiers? I heard the handling is like a professional football player: rough and doesn't give any comfort, and goes anywhere it damn well pleases. my friend has a canadian Skyline with Nismo sh!t all through out, and a bunch of used Calsonic race parts. Only AWD car I've ever driven, and it was purdy nifty. felt funny being on the other seat and being able to drive, shifting was the biggest confuse factor ever. |

The interior included some boots, socks and trousers. I shudder to think about the underpants!
Amongst the hot rod window stickers, I was hoping to come across the vintage best seller "If this vans rockin - don't come knockin", but it wasn't to be, lol.

Brian, I didn't hate the Gremlin, more like I wanted something else. We're talking high school after all!
My Dad was an AMC guy through and through.
Through the years we had, Ramblers, Marlins (now that car was bad ass), Javelins, Gremlins, Pacers, Hornets, Sportabouts, maybe more, but I can't think of them right now. I grew up in a heavily embattled battlefield of Mopar, Ford, and Chevy, there were no other brands, so I was always an outsider with regards to the Car Wars.
Maybe that's why I was drawn to the Buell... |

The Gremlin X with the 304 was capable of surprising the big 3's best if you bolted in the
401. A car like that makes it easy to catch them napping if you don't run glass-packs on it.
I mean really, who expects their small block mustang/camaro/duster etc to get spanked by a
lil' ole gremlin?
Back then I was hooked into the AMC clubs (BTW Tony Zamisch from San Diego had some really
cool sleeper AMCs as well as being the prez. of the AMC club) and parts networks and helped
build several of these cars that nobody was afraid of, but should have been.
In the 70s IIRC the SCCAs first use of restrictor plates was on the 258s in the gremlins and
pacers because in their class they were un-beatable. Then again anyone that has owned
a Jeep with a 258 will tell you how good those motors can be.
I know you weren't hating on the Gremlin and you're right, in high school we all just wanted to
fit in. Being different was bad. I'm SO glad I got over that. |

I had a 258 in my Hornet. I could put a real hurting on my buddy Robert's 4-door Maverick in a drag race. The car wasn't much of a handler. Th one time I tried to find out how fast it would go, it felt like it was going to fly apart at 99mph (She's breaking up! She's breaking up!)... and I had to back off before reaching the ton. When I hit the brakes, the car went flying off the road to the left. Thank God there wasn't anyone else out there but us idiots. |

Yup, they rides just like a truck is supposed too on pavement. It was built to go off road and compete with Jeep's and Yotas. |
