Well we made it back. The track at Brainerd is a HP dream track, pretty boring! The back section is great and makes up for the big ass straight. I only made it thru the morning and on the 2nd session of the afternoon I crashed out in turn 9. Had to get on the brakes really hard to avoid hitting a guy on a CBR XX that had decided to sight see or something. One millisecond, everything seemed like it was going to be fine, the next I was hitting the track man I tell you, when the front end tucks on you it happens fast! I slid off the track, hit the little curb, caught some air and hit the dirt. Not too much damage to the Bolt. Turn signal, frt brake lever, rear brake lever, foot peg, right side handle bar. So no biggie. Tore up my new leathers pretty bad and messed up my helmet. I hurt my right foot and knee but am already walking better. The ride home yesterday wasn't much fun. 375 miles, my leg and foot hurt the whole way. The coolest part of the trip was when I took Penny out on the track on the back of the Firebolt! We did the orientation laps in the morning and then went out again when they were shut down for lunch. What a rush for both of us! Just about got my knee down in a couple of corners but didn't want to push it too far with her on the bike with me. I'll let her post what she thought in her own words. So all in all it was a good trip. We rode the Harleys up on Thursday, went to the track on Friday and rode home on the HDs again on Sat. PS. If you are ever in Brainerd go to Pauncho's and Lefty's, great Mexican food! We went there Thursday night and it was so good we went back Friday night too! -------------------- Ride to the edge! Silly of you Dave, don't you know that the big mean IL4 hyperbikes are way faster than an XB9R going around a track? You must have been halucinating. Now tell the truth, it was an XR100 with a stuck valve being ridden by a fat girl, wasn't it. Overall sounds like a good time. A bad day at the track is still better than a good day at the office, right? Would love to hear Penny's account of the pillion track ride. Michele refuses all my invitations for such an adventure. I married a very smart girl. Ask Keith about his first tour d'Oak Hill Raceway riding pillion with me. This was before he bought the XB9S where for the previous ten years he had been riding his '00 Night Train or '84 Superglide. |

Thanks for the restaurant tip, Dave. I have never heard of that place but I love Mexican. I'll have to try it. I am going to try and get up there this weekend either Saturday or Sunday I'm not sure yet which day. It's AMA Superbike weekend! By the way, I'll just be watching, not racing!
