I just realized this morning that I have not turned on my desk top PC in 6 months. I have been tinkering with the idea of making a Media center PC. Has anyone done this? What I am looking for is. 1. Make my mp3 files accessible all the time. 2. Put the kids movies on the harddrive to clear up the clutter. They never put them away when they are done. I have a decent video card. Windows xp pro. 800 gigs of empty hard drive space. I imagine that this will get changed around for a raid config.....I will also replace the case with a media center case. What dvd ripper are you guys using? I have searched the web a couple of times and have not found a current how too. The guys were using windows media center. And some really obsolete hardware. Any help would be appreciated. |

I saw beyond tv. How well does it manage your media library? Natex that is a great link. I remember installing linux and holding my breath the entire time. Because it was inevitable that I would be missing a driver. Basically it now is to the point that I want to rip my entire dvd library onto it. and Have all my mp3's available. |

With the 360 and full Media Center Suite, you can stream audio, pictures, and I believe even video through your network. I had problems with my original XBOX and haven't set it up on the replacement. |

I picked up a copy of Plato. It works pretty well. I keep them in AVS, I believe. I can load them onto my Blackberry. With the 2GB card, I can load three complete movies. I'm sure there is a better format, though. |

B-TV is the basic set-up which will do all your recording/playing/burning operations. As for basic management every recorded show is stored in one spot. I record everything at dvd quality and an 80gig drive gives me 17 hours of record time. Add Beyond Media to the mix and you can manage all your pic/vid/music files. The "burner" is an add-on to B-TV and well worth the extra couple coins. Also has an add on option for streaming across a home network. For ripping your DVDs down for storage/copying I use DVD Shrink |

Price is good. All I need is a tuner card, remote and a bit of time to get it together. Should be fun. I loved the thin client application. WOW. |
