well, i was riding home last night and all of a sudden i saw a rock (more like a brick) in the middle of the lane last second. i tried to swerve and missed it with my front tire, then it hit my exaust tip, RIPPED IT OFF, and shot it under my rear tire, crushing it. so now my x1 sounds like crap and i dont have the money to buy a new muffler. bummer. The weird thing is that the rock didnt dent my muffler, it was just tall enough to catch my tip and rip it out of the exaust. |

If it were me, I would be thankful that my front tire missed the brick. Things could have been alot worse. You can always fix your muffler. Make sure your rear tire is not damaged too. Good luck. |

Any friends at a local muffler shop? With a welder? Shouldn't be too hard to fab up a piece of 2in pipe and weld it on. Glad nothing else went wrong. Reminds me of the time I hit a 6-8in long piece of 4X4 in the roadway on an old XLCH. Once you know the painted side is still up, the rest is all good (even if I did dent BOTH aluminum rims). |

I saw a guy laying on the side of the freeway last night motionless and bloody, his metric cruiser 200 feet further down the freeway on its side. A few of us stopped to help and call 911. Apparently a convertible top from a car in front of him flew off and hit him, taking him off his bike. He was in rough shape, but I think will be okay. Just be happy, it could have been worse. --Sean |

Glad you reacted well enough to get around it with the front end. This is why I don't like to ride at night (can't see). I almost hit a pig in the roadway like that last year. It was in the weeds on the side of the road in the dark, and about the time I got next to it, he decided it was time to cross the road. It happened so fast, I never even tapped a brake, and I'll bet I missed it by inches. Be safe out there. |

A fellow Badwebber GAVE me an original CLEAN can for my X1 once when i went off roading and crushed my old can.Nearly EVERYONE goes aftermarket (read:LOUD) anyway and many have old clean cans laying on a shelf.Post a WTB in the classified section of this website. |

Glad to hear you are OK. Here's a photo of my road hazard. I was very lucky too - I never saw it until just before I hit it with BOTH wheels, doing about 60 mph. Once i figured out what happened ( and checked th bike out for damage) I went back and picked it up to take it home. I leave it in my garage as a daily reminder that I need to be 100% aware ALL THE TIME. I figured this one was a freebie - I could have easily been thrown and/or done some serious damage to the bike Note: The rock was probably oriented in the opposite direction, forming a bit of a ramp. I can't think of any other way that would not have resulted in a catastrophic failure of the tire and the wheel

Yesterday on the Long Island Expressway a truck overturned dumping a full load of roofing nails all over the westbound highway during rush hour. Now THAT would've sucked. I picked a good day to work from home. |
