until 4:30 this afternoon. Crashed the Buell on the way home. 25mph curve, I was doing 25-30mph. Some guy in a import decides to cross the center line. I went down, landed about 20 feet from the bike, Im in the road, bikes in the ditch, THE CAR DIDNT EVEN STOP! After what seemed like a couple of minutes, I crawled to the bike cuz my left leg didnt work, couldnt tell if it was broken or not but it sure felt like it.
I was able to pick up the bike using only one leg and my back. Shifter gone, foot peg, gone, handle bars bent pretty bad. Hell, it still ran, now heres where I didnt use the best judgement in the world.
So my left leg doesnt work, Im balancing the bike upright on my right leg, in a ditch, Might as well see if I can ride it home!
Now Im only about 3 miles from home, bikes stuck in 3rd gear, I have to start from a ditch, go up a hill, and down and around a 20 mph corner. Doing pretty well and I crest the hill, and never thought to check my brakes. Thank goodness they worked.
Got home, told the wife, ah, honey, you have to take me to the hospital NOW.
The good news is nothings broken, which is hard to believe with the way my foot, knee and hip feels. I was wearing a helmet, gloves and jacket with armor. Jacket and gloves are toast. If I would have lower body protection, which I was "always going to get", I woulldnt have torn up my knee.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone

Oh, anybody want to cut my grass!!!!

Oh this isnt the first time for me. Im 53 years old, been riding since I was 14 years old, but the last time I dropped a bike was back around 1986, and then it was only a Honda, so I dont think that really counts

Damn glad I didn't read this before I went riding yesterday! I'll be 58 this year and started two wheeling at 14. It seemed like I ran into every "Jag and Jagette" on earth with something to do other than focus on driving. And I'm not superstitious! Sorry about your get off, but glad you're O.K.

Mr grumpy, while I dont know where Rennes is, I have spent some time in Le Sables d Olonne (sorry for the incorrect spelling) back in the early 70s.
At any rate, thank you for your generous offer to cut the grass in exchange for air fair but I think Ill just let it grow

Glad to hear you're OK.

You just confirmed to me that I WILL wear my leathers as my hubby and I are heading out tomorrow morning for a week on our bikes in the Colorado mountains.

Jumpingjewels. Well, its good to hear you'll be wearing the leathers. Im not going to preach to people because that kind of thing is a personal decision but, I promised myself that within days of me being able to walk again, Im going to buy some overpants or something. Im sure the fact that I was wearing boots also helped in the foot not being hurt any worse than it was

I'm not one for preaching either, but personal experience of someone you know (kinda sorta) is worth a lot.

I've ridden in jeans, sure we all have, just to pop to the shop or whatever, I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I ALWAYS wear, jacket, helmet, gloves & boots that cover my ankles.

I've always found that I'm a much more confident, & consequently better, rider when I'm fully kitted up.

I cringe when I see people riding with little or no protective gear, sure it's their skin & their prerogative to do as they please, but that doesn't make me think it's any less stupid.

Just my 2c worth.

Enjoy your ride but above all ride safe!

Chuck, I'm about 150m north of Sables.

It's changed a bit since the 70s though, much more touristy now.
