Good question. I'd be willing to fly anywhere I could demo a 1125R on a track.

Do you know how many bikes have been wrecked on street demos?? A lot more than 3. I doubt they will stop doing track demos cuz 3 guys got hurt. Actually 2 people have died on street demos and they still do them.

You mean the term "demo" isn't short for demolition?:P

**** happens. Buell gets a check for the bikes from insurance (if insured), or they just eat the cost of 3 bikes as part of the marketing budget, then go and do more demos. : )

Unfortunately there has been a demo bike broken at each March Badness.
It's a risk that Buell has decided to take.
They even had a law suit a few years ago when a demo rider was killed while test riding an X1 in Florida.
If anything was going to kill the demo program, I would have thought that would have been the killer.
Personally I can't wait to ride the new bikes during MB-IV.
Wow! Number 5 is coming up!
Only 262 days 'til MB-IV!!!

I saw a couple of riders take diggers on their GSXR's & R6's, but I don't recall seeing any demo bikes come back with damage. I hope nobody got banged up too bad, likewise for their bikes. I sure hope they continue to have them at the rest of the "Inside Pass" track days. I enjoyed my session on the XB12R at Road America and would like to demo the XB12STT at Mid Ohio!

This spring a demo truck driver told me 2 people died in the last year demoing Buells.

He also told me that I look like a "unsafe rider" WTF? I Guess its full leather suit, full face helmet. Maybe he saw "racer gear" and not "I dont want to get hurt gear" Or maybe its just the mohawk.

I later showed him that a footpeg is about to fall of one of his Screaming Eagle demo bikes. I told him it he was being very "unsafe" letting people ride that bike.

He was the only HD/Buell employee I have ever met that I was not impressed with.

That was the Buell truck or the Harley-Davidson truck?

At sturgis, and everywhere after sturgis??? (AKA InsidePass events)

I'll do some demo's at Sturgis, but I have a sneeking suspision that'll be a pretty lame demo route.

Wow, I didn't know people had died on demo rides. Our local HD dealer changed the route this year to a very boring course. The reason given was too many accidents in the previous years on the nice twisty through the country route. I'm surprised Buell can find insurance considering what was said about the problems and cost associated with BattleTrax

Court,

HD Demos. 2 trucks. One HD truck, the other was a Buell truck both both seem to be hauling HD's. There were no Buells to be demoed advertised or in sight. I only met the one Driver/Factory Rep.

@ bumpus HD in Murfreesboro, TN. Cant remember his name or the exact date.

I doubted it was the Buell truck. The folks managing the Buell truck are seasoned pros.

If Gary Cravillion told me I looked unsafe. . . I'd get off the motorcycle. He knows what he's talking about. I spent several years doing demos with him, the guy is an amazing rider.

The liability thing with demos is scary. But not 1/10th as scary as that release folks scurry to sign . . . ever read it carefully? I sign basically the same release and ride VERY carefully.

Yup, Gary is a straight shooter, and would never tell anyone in full leathers that he looked unsafe, unless he was.

That's what I wore while leading over 200 different riders for two days 2 months ago at Hals Buell demo days.

I've spent many an hour with three different demo coordinators. Mike, Gary, and Jerry all were top notch guys in my book.

This year's demo days I did learn one thing... most "sportbike" guys around us can't take a corner to save their lives. There is a nice 90 degree sweeper that's part of our route. I would take that, like the rest of the course at no more than 5MPH over the speed limit. After the corner, I'd have this huge gap behind me, each and every time. And they'd end up doing 50-60MPH in a 35MPH zone. So, to say the least we got pulled over this year by one of New Berlin's finest : )

The "inside pass" in October will have 1125Rs to demo I hear.

He claimed I was "unsafe" without seeing me ride a bike. He could not observed me ride or even talk to me. He just called me out when I was looking at the bikes. He did not even see me ride until I left the dealership. I did not even demo a bike at this event.

How can you say that to a rider just out of the blue?

I do get alot of odd comment with the Mohawk helmet. Maybe the guy had a weird sense of humor that I just didn't get. Maybe he never got to the punchline before I walked off. IMHO The bit about 2 dead riders and putting down a rider who he dosen't know is really lame joke.

It went something like this:

Rode into to dealership, back side of Bumpus. Walked around front an saw 2 demo trucks and a bunch of HDs.
Seeing the buell truck drew me in.

Walked up to a SE demo bike to take a closer look. I noticed the footpeg was about to fall off.

I asked if they were demoing buells.

He said we had one, but somebody wrecked on the first demo. He went on to say 2 riders died on buell demos this year. He made to comment that I did looked like a "unsafe" "aggressive" rider. Then I made the comment about he was "unsafe" to let people ride a bike that was falling apart and pointed to the peg. He did not like that. Then he went to the truck got a tool and fixed it as I walked off.

Im not mad, nor worried about. It was more odd than offending.

Can anyone confirm? I'd like to book travel early if RA in Oct won't have them.

Cornering is something that takes practice, I guess. There's a decreasing radius right turn that I ride every day to and from work and, when I had my Gold Wing, I'd practice the proper procedure at increasing fast speeds.

One day a kid on a CBR600F3 or 4, they all look alike, came up on my left to shame the old man on the Wing and while I scraped some floorboard and came out on the gas, he was trying not to hit the curb on the far side of the road.

I've been waiting for him to ride behind me now that I'm on a Blast that can really corner.

Someone in a mohawk festooned helmet obviously took his lunch money when he was a kid.

Thousands in therapy doesn't seem to have paid off for the poor fellow.

He just wanted the chocolate milk. Is that so wrong? Is it Mr. Mohawk?
