In my mind - this is what happened - As Meadow opens the door, she sees the guy who had been sitting at the bar gun down Tony, Carmela and AJ - he looks at Meadow, but instead of killing her walks out.
Anyway - I thought it sucked big time!

Tony was whacked. Several times this season they mention how you don't hear it when it happens.

But this is my take, and I have to watch it again to be sure. The FBI set the whole thing up. Pitted the 2 families together knowing that this would happen. Now they can put the squeeze on everyone else and get the job done.

That's my take, what's yours.

I hate it when shows end like that, leaving you guessing.

The Sopranos on HBO. Kind of like TV for adults. A Mafia dynasty dying nasty.

I don't buy HBO but we got this NetFlix thing over here now and I started last year by watching The Sopranos from season 1, show 1, on up through the last show in season 6.

Now is season 7 and the show is ending at the end of this season. And they are coming up with some surprises I guess.

NetFlix will have the season 7 shows before long and I'll get those and watch those too.

I love watching it on DVD because you can shuttle the playback when you miss something.

The HBO movies are pretty well made. Good casts and characters, excellent story lines, camera work, and scene staging.

1) Looks like Med is gonna get wacked. What a waste.

2) Carmella's hooters seem to get nicer and nicer with each show. Now its over?

3) Why couldn't have Anthony Jr. gotten blown up in the SUV?

4) Why couldn't they have said that the hotty model he was about to have be 18 so they could have shown her hooters?

Serious disapointments

I used to do a lot of work in an old beauty shop that catered to older black ladies. Those straightening irons were frightening.
While there, it was a constant bickering battle all about what was going on on their "stories". It was a hoot listening to them going on about their soaps. Some of them seemed to think they were real enough to fight about.

Ahhh, memories

LIFE GOES ON.

we just were able to experience a slice of it. the slice of pie ended at the restaurant, but the sopranos life continues. we just don't get to see how it ends....

Enjoy the good times.

Really the daughter was the one that was going to kill the entire family. She wanted the top spot, and had been working with the FBI, which was another family moving in from Chicago. rex

To me, that show was like a train wreck. I didn't want to watch it, but I think I saw all but one episode.

As for the final episode, I thought it was genius. Expectation was so high, there was no way anyone would have been happy no matter how it ended. How many of you would have thought it was a perfect ending if Tony and/or the rest of his family was taken out? After 7 seasons, you want it to end with Tony getting shot in the head while eating an onion ring?

They kept showing short scenes and making the viewer speculate as to what was going to happen. Specifically, the final scene gave you about 15 visual cues as to what may happen. For instance: some Italian guy walks in just before AJ, making you think that his parents would be killed right in front of him. Then Meadow kept screwing up her parallel parking job making you think the rest of the family would be killed, but she would survive because it's taking her so long to park. When the camera focuses on something specific, the viewer automatically tries to understand why it is important. They took advantage of this to increase suspense. As I said, genius.

Ending it the way they did allows all of us to decide what happens next. So the story lives on in our own imagination.

For some reason, American audiences get pissed when things aren't explained and wrapped up in the end. Lost is so popular because people just want an explanation. NO matter how stupid and far fetched it is. If Lost ends like Sopranos, there will be riots.

I think Cereal got it just right. Like many, I thought the DVD player had jammed, until the credits started. Brilliant ending, and they left the door open to just about any follow on they would want. As an ending to a TV series, probably second only to Newhart. IMHO

I think you got that wrong. The hitman walked into the bathroom seeing Tony sitting all by himself on that side of the booth. Meadow's putzing kept her out of the booth until he went into the John, now when the hit man comes out blazing he going to wack her instead of Tony.

First Buellinachinashop, +1 for Entourage.

Second, why do you think Meadow is the target? She is hot, but not quite in the too-hot-to-live category.

Glen Jones Radio Show on WFMU had a better guess about the series ending:

Tony Soprano wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette.

"Second, why do you think Meadow is the target?"

She's not the target, she's coming in late and will be a victim of circumstance.

I hate TV, the only two shows I actually know the schudle for are The Soprano's and Entourage. Big screen HD makes them even better.

Oh, you where being serious! I thought you where making a joke!

First of all, you misunderstood my original point. I was just saying there were many visual cues to make you think any one of 15 things could happen at any second. There was also the trucker and the hoods that the camera focused on making you think that they could have been hitters. What about the FBI agent’s actions? What was he up to? They left everything open to interpretation, which is why I said that the finale was genius.

Here are the problems with your theory as I see it. If Tony is the target and you think Meadow would have only been a victim of circumstance, then why would the hitman have gone to the bathroom waiting for her to show? How does he even know that she is coming? Traditionally, hitmen don’t wait around inside the establishment so everyone can take a good look at them. Especially not in the targets line of sight. They walk in, shoot the target, drop the gun (in mafia movies at least), and walk out. This way, it limits the number of people who saw the hitter before the deed, and everyone is too scared to take a good look at him afterward.

I’m not saying your wrong, I just don’t buy it.

And if they do make a movie (which I seriously doubt will happen), then there is no way Tony dies in that diner. What would the movie be about? Pualie Walnuts running the show? Riiiiiiiiight.

He went to the bathroom to get ready for the hit on Tony...he has no clue that she's even going to show up. The booth is empty, but Tony, now he's in the bathroom getting the guns ready...he comes out blazing and she's now in the booth...boom, she's dead.

Remember, there's been all kinds of wacking going on. How does the hit man know Tony isn't being protected unless he sits at the bar and watches him for a few minutes? he sees a clear shot, goes to the bathroom to load up...comes out...BOOM.
