Price of gas wasn't a factor for me to buy my Uly. 3 cents or 3 dollars per gallon, i was geting the bike anyway. Hopefully the roads won't get polluted with noobs that can't ride then our insurance will go up.

I seen a teenage girl riding a scooter the other day with a full face helmet and typical teen wear.
IE

Belly shirt/tank top combo thing and sweat pant looking capri pants with flip flops.

Oh yeah pollution it is.

The increase in scooters in NYC is VERY obvious . . . I don't know what the rate of increase is but what used to be a novelty (the cute little gal in the skirt and half helmet) I now see 40-60 times a day.

Yesterday

I've also been seeing 2 or 3 sportbikes knocked off their wheels in traffic each week over the lats couple weeks when warn weather arrived. . . hope that trend doesn't reach the scooters.

Scooters have become all the rage here in Gotham, especially among the terminally hip.

My mother used to ride a Lambretta back in the old country.

I have never before seen more motorcycles commuting to Manhattan than I do now. There would be a lot more respect among commuters if everyone rode a bike.

The other day I was following an obviously newbie on a real nice Victory custom with a paper plate. He slowed way down to go around a 40mph curve on the freeway. I followed him off the freeway down to a red light. I noticed that he wasn't using his front brake at all. As he pulled up to the light and before he was stopped both feet went out. It was pretty humorous watching him try to stop that beast with his sandled feet. Needless to say he was in a tank top, shorts and no helmet.
I've been waiting to read about him in the paper.

scooters are very popular overseas. The ride the heck out of them. Wide OPEN over sidewalks. in and around cars - parked or moving!

I'd call the scooter craze in Manhattan off the charts amazing. . . . I'm seeing a couple new ones pop up on the block each week.

My wife, caught by the craze, is headed to the Village today to a place that does refurubed retro Vespas.

I've wittled the stable from 9 to 2 bikes. . . looks like we may be headed back up.
