I have to make an unexpected trip to Boston, and if the weather cooperates I can ride my new bike while there. Has anyone taken a helmet onto a plane? I can't imagine why it would be a problem, but anything out of the ordinary seems to cause the TSA to say "no".

Thanks!

Not a problem, even used mine as my carry-on bag. Had my cell phone and GPS in there.
Just have to empty it out, like everything else, when you go through inspection.

Peace
Milo

While in Boston go over to the NEBO board in the Storm Fronts section and go riding with some of the boys. They will treat ya right. Unfortunately I won't be back home till the 10th.

I carry one a great deal.

Get a good bag. Never let it out of your sight. Great place to store gloves and soft (t-shirts you pick up along the way) type of stuff.

Never let it out of your sight.

Treat it like your life depends on it . . .it does.

It approaching the time of year I traditionally do my impassioned. . "it's your gear; it's your ass" piece. . . thanks for reminding me.

Never let it out of your sight.

Scorpion makes a great semi-hard helmet bag. Sounds like just what you're looking for.

I carried mine on the plane to Homecoming last year. No bag or anything, I just stuck it under my arm. The nice lady sitting next to me looked at it (and at me) and said,

"Oh, I see have a crash helmet!"

to which I, ever the smart-ass, replied,

"Absolutely! Don't you?"

It was a long, quiet plane ride after that...

I travel with a helmet all the time. Never a problem.

I usually tell the hostie at the door: 'Last flight was so rough, this time I came prepared'.

Helmet's standard carry on for my travels.
Don't don it while approaching security check, though, and remember that donning it on the aircraft is an FAA 'probable' and, technically, an actionable offense(!).
Just carry it along, set it in the x-ray tray and stow it in the overhead once aboard.
there are two things which i carry on (when the excursion warrants), sometimes simultaneously:
Ski Boots and m/c helmet.
If your skis/snowboard get lost (& they commonly do), you can always rent at the resort and bill-back the carrier. You do NOT want to spend a ski trip in rental ski boots, or in a rental m/c helmet.
Also- if you've a regular destination (one which you visit annually or so), why not keep a helmet, there, with friends?
I keep m/c helmets in California, NY and Prague to keep the carry on hassle at a minimum.
...although the BIG plus I've found with carrying helmets aboard is the conversation-starting coefficient, and ensuing offers to take curious female flight attendants for rides often leads to an enhanced "stay at your designation, wherever it may be"....
....thank you for flying with us, and please return your flight attendant to her original, upright position
(My first wife was a Flight attendant )
