I was entering the parking garage at the end of my block when I noticed this Honda Goldwing with strange plates. The photos tell the whole story. I never knew they made diplomatic plates that small.    | ||

Well it does matter. The Subaru further proves their bad taste. That's one dumb car when it comes to cult status. If it were not for its rallying achievements it would be held in the same low regard as a Proton Persona or similar. They are ugly like one expects from a boring unstyled four door saloon from anywhere in the Far East. Yet their rallying achievements have made them somehow cool to idiots who think adding a few spoilers makes them somehow be that way. They are not 'cool' unless you're fourteen years old and still wetting the bed. Yes I have had friends who have owned several. They now live in Thailand. Obviously women aren't impressed by the Impreza or my once upon a time friends wouldn't have had to find themselves living in Thailand where women can be bought for a few Bart. Just like their personalities, this car is as boring as the people that buy or even lust after them. I feel sorry for Thai chicks. Rocket | ||

after they lowered the ultra's for 04, it is a much nicer ride than their predecesor. as far as the gold wing, they just look to bulky to me. and rocket, i was that 14 yr old that did have a subaru and if you must know, some doctors have said that bedwetting stems from some traumatic incident in your life, like your mother trying to commit suicide while she's still pregnant with you. so if your thinking about saying something stupid, just keep it to your self next time. | ||

while Wings ain't my personal cuppa, they are greeat at their inteded uses -- in the hands of a capable rider, they can surprise you, bit time, on a challenging road seein as how they're built in Ohio, buying one would also support workers in the USA ;-} | ||

I used to post photos of some of the Diplo-Bikes in the secure United Parking where I parked. It was always interesting to see what was parked amongst the armored limos. One of my my favorites, and it's buried here somewhere on badweb, was the photo of the scooter with the diplomatic plates parked in front of the Kuwait Embassy . . I thought that said a lot about oil and fuel economy. | ||

You are correct! Because of its rally achievements and subarus ability to take a risk and trickle that technology into their production car we are provide w/ a super car killer for 30k. For some one that enjoys riding a buell which in my opinion is currently the black sheep of the sport bike world it surprises me you would hate on the black sheep of the sport car market. I feel like the STi is just like the Buell, it looks like a bruiser and has all the right parts to kick your a55 where it counts. Its a killer car for the money.. | ||

Someone posted a link to a video of a couple of goldwings on the twistys....those boys were riding their a.. off.....You could hear dragging center stand and all. To each his own. I ride to get away from it....not bring it with me. | ||

This thread sure went to hell fast...  As for the subaru, I am surprised by Rocketmans comments. The impreza was designed with UK roads in mind. I agree it doesn't look like much, but boy can it perform. As for those who are not goldwing fans, it is probably one of the most important motorcycles made. It is like the S class mercedes, everything starts on the goldwing then works it way down to the lesser bikes. I watched a show about the goldwing plant in Ohio. Most people don't know that it is most likely the most "american" motorcycle made (by parts, and labor source) I personally would not by a goldwing, only because I don't think I could handle the weight safely. | ||

I've ridden one and I'm 5' 7" and 170 and it was an easy fit. Parking lots are little goofy but it holds the road well. I just couldn't put down 20 Gs. | ||

My father and his second wife both have brand new Goldwings. I was really surprised when I got some seat time on one - not my style, but you can't deny the bike is a stunning success at what it was designed for. | ||

If I was going to buy a Tour bike for the sake of long distance riding with comfort and all features of living at home. It would be the Goldwing no doubt. As far as Subaru?? I owned a Outback and it was a great car in bad weather,probably the best I've ever owned or have been in,on slippery condition's. The WRX STI is one hot car for the money. Not much can touch it other then a Lancer. | ||

On a Saturday morning in January 1980, while on patrol, Cpl. Thomas E. Hutchins, a Maryland State trooper, noticed a car with diplomatic tags traveling slowly on a major highway. The trooper also observed that the driver of the car was constantly checking his rearview mirror as he drove. The actions of the driver, combined with the speed of the vehicle, the early hour, and the diplomatic tags, aroused his suspicions enough that he ran a check of the car's registration. It was registered to a Soviet, Ivan Ivanovich Odintsov. The trooper then asked himself what could a Soviet diplomat be doing at 6:00 a.m. on a cold Saturday morning? Now, more suspicious than ever, Corporal Hutchins continued to follow the diplomat's car. The diplomat, noticing the patrol vehicle, tried to evade the trooper. Then, he attempted several countersurveillance techniques to determine if he was still being followed. Losing his composure, the diplomat accelerated to more than 60 m.p.h. and ran a stop sign. This was when Corporal Hutchins decided to pull him over. As he approached the stopped vehicle, Corporal Hutchins noticed that the Soviet diplomat appeared frightened and nervous. When asked to identify himself, Odintsov stated he was a Soviet diplomat and produced a diplomatic passport and a District of Columbia driver's license. Also, with no prompting, he told the officer that he was going fishing. Corporal Hutchins, seeing no fishing gear in the car and knowing that there was no place to fish in the area, asked his dispatcher to contact the U.S. State Department to advise them of the stop and seek its guidance. A short time later, the dispatcher informed the trooper that no one was available at the State Department at that hour. Concerned about the proximity of the Soviet to Andrews Air Force Base and the Naval Communications Station, which were both less than 5 miles away, but running out of alternatives, he decided to issue the Soviet a warning citation and allowed him to depart. However, before the end of his patrol, the trooper did notify the Security Police at the airbase of the Soviet's presence in the area. Unknown to Corporal Hutchins, the Soviet was a known KGB intelligence officer. Later, in 1985, the FBI learned that Odintsov was one of the KGB officers responsible for handling John Walker, the most notable Soviet penetration of the U.S. Navy in this century. The fact that Walker was not identified on that Saturday morning, 5 years earlier, was just bad luck. | ||

I don't like Goldwings and I dislike Subaru silly cars. Goldwings attract a boring element of riders. Imprezas attract spotty yoofs who wear mulberry pattern baseball caps sideways. That's enough for me not to be seen dead in one no matter how well the car might go. They're strictly a tits car. When it comes to cars or motorcycles I prefer a more serious approach to what I buy / own. Generally that means something not everyone else has got. Rocket | ||

I don't know Rocket. I live in decent size city between to large city's. I see several WRX's but only see a few STI's. Quite frankly I don't see them wearing baseball cap's. There is one or two that I know that are willing to take some cash from your pocket though. lol | ||

They definitely attract the lamer boy-racer crowd, but where else do you get 200+hp and legitimate AWD for ~$25k? We're desperate for affordable sports cars here. | ||
