I just sold the X1. Was a very sad day to see the X1 loaded into a trailer and go down the road. But in spring of 2008 everything should be back to normal and i should have a decent amount of money. If you had a choice and if you did not own a bike which one would you choose. Lets say you will have about $10,000 cash. And your wife tells you its your choice but she does not like the idea of another bike because of the new baby she wants you around and not 6 feet under. But she does not care about the other two. Here are the vehicles i would like to have but can only swing one. Another bike, 1978 to 2003 Z28 or the car i'm leaning towards the 2008 caddy CTS. Which would you guys choose? I really like the new look of the CTS have always love caddy's.

Given that:
(a) you have a new baby
(b) babies take $$$
(c) gas is projected to be ~$3/gallon soon:

and

1. Z28 Camaro- 15-20 MPG on premium.
2. Caddy CTS- 15-20 MPG on premium, and continuing car payments.
3. New Buell- ~45-50 MPG on premium.

I vote for option 3.

(Note- the above numbers were all pulled from a rectal database, but they're probably not far off the mark.)

Cadillac CTS

EPA estimated 18 mpg city, 27 mpg highway (2.8L & 3.6L auto)
EPA estimated 17 mpg city, 27 mpg highway (2.8L manual)
EPA estimated 17 mpg city, 26 mpg highway (3.6L manual)

I'd go with the Caddy if the bike is a no-no. Especially the 3.6L and 6 speed! Sounds like a fun combination.

I vote for the Caddy as well ... 3.6 with a stick ... nice combo .. PLUS -- the Camaro is not a good car for the twisties .. and having been on a Buell, you may be still having that urge to carve some corners ... that being said - the Caddy takes the cake out of the two cars .. (again - that is if the bike is a no-no )

I'd vote for a BMW but .. I'm biased in that regard....

Check out the audi s5. I see you like american but the s5 is something else. If you opt for a car stop by audi and take a look at one of them.... mpg is pretty good too

Get the caddy, you will want to take the family along the vast majority of time and the baby should be at least 5 before they can ride in a sidecar.

I'd go with the 2008 caddy!!!

I owned a '79 Z28 and it was a lot of fun back then. But I'm spoiled with all the new gadgets and amenities of today's cars. And the F-style body during that era did have some body rust issues.

I was going to buy a neighbor's '95 Z28 until I checked with my insurance man.

For a person with my clean record and age, over $1,000/yr for a toy was a bit steep. Especially since it'd sit in the garage most of the time.

With the baby coming, I'd opt for a new car and wait until you're more established to buy motorcycles and sportscars. You chose to do the family thing, so now you've got to make family decisions. If I had a family, I probably would not be playing in traffic on sportbikes for sure. I'm single, so I feel the risk is warranted considering no one is depending on me to feed and shelter them. Besides, I'm worth way more dead than alive anyway. I'm sure my people would miss me, but if something happened to me, I wouldn't be hurting anyone's lifestyle. On the other hand, my brother also bought a bike the same time I did and he's got a wife, two little boys, a mortgage, car payments, etc. etc. I talked him into selling his bike because he would hurt his family if something happened to him. They need him to be a father and head of house hold way more than any insurance policy could ever compensate them for. Make sense? Get the toys later after it wouldn't be such a big hit to your family if something bad happened.

The Caddy is going to get Direct Injection for the new 2008 model, so fuel economy and HP go up : )

Who wouldn't want 300hp and 30+mpg? : )

Or Corvette, 400hp and 28mpg : )

It's around the same price.

You could wait for the IS-F

400+ HP would provide much wood! ;)

so everyone talkin about what happened if (god forbid) something happened to him..... well what if he fell outa bed and broke his neck? when the man upstairs decides its time to go, nothing ya can do about that..... my vote, buy a used m2 , and a used family sedan (taurus, accord, etc) i wouldnt however opt for the caddy since the baby will cost you alot more then what you are planning for....... you are planning right? dosent matter, it will cost more. and the best part......... worth every penny.

Can you send the baby back? Check your contract, but I am sure you didn't realize the numerous constraints that it would impose upon your personal life when you let go of that orgasmic load. I have learned that at that moment, I am not really capable of coherent thought...so it could be argued that you were temporarily insane at conception.

It is worth a shot. If that doesn't work, well, you can always put things on hold for a while.

Thanks, Guys but my wife likes the caddy to and i think i will get it with the 3.6L and 6 speed with the 300 watt bose system. My promotion at work is coming soon and my wife will be getting a nice check from her employer next year and with the income tax the caddy is as good as in my garage with money left over for some house work. So as you can see the bike is out of the question unless i use my overtime money to buy one. Because momma is helping me get the caddy. LOL

I guess i should have mentioned that little detail.

I saw some mentions of other cars, lexus, audi, accord, taurus family sedan and oh my god mini van. No freakin' way. I grew up in my Dads 72 caddy and have always loved them. Now that i have the chance to own the pinnacle of American luxury and not to mention real nice performance. I'm not going to let it pass me by. Beside some day when the baby is grown up my wife will get the itch to ride again so i know there will be a be bike or two in the future. I will post pics. next year of my caddy when i take delivery.

Congrats on becoming a cager. Make sure you talk on the cell phone a lot while you're commuting, one person to a car thinking there is nothing else in the world that matters, but you.
See you on the highway Scag.

How in the world do you expect to buy a Cadillac CTS with $10,000? That is barely a down-payment.

If you've got curves where you live, I say buy a nice 91-97 Miata for $6K and pocket the rest...after taking your wife out for a primo dinner. Like the Buell; not the fastest car out there but responds well to mods and out-handles cars that are much more expensive. But it's pretty much a toy...not a daily driver for most of us who have them.

How in the world do you expect to buy a Cadillac CTS with $10,000? That is barely a down-payment

The CTS I want and option comes to $34,000 so about 30% down is barely a down-payment. Riiiiggght!!!

Have you ever heard of a lease? It is the best option for me and i can start writing them off next year. Thank you very much now have a nice day.

Caddy has a $299 lease deal right now with $2999 down for the Bose addition CTS but the time is not right. I'm sure they will have more lease deals like that next year and i will add a couple more grand to make the monthly lease payment lower. And what is left over will go into the house and bank.

Hell I'm paying $364/month for my chevy cobalt and i had $1500 down on it that was to purchase. I'm going to a lease for now and i will have a new caddy every three years and i get to write it off. And a day will come i'll buy one of the caddy's at the end of the lease.

So i figure with the difference in the cobalt payment and the caddy lease i will put that in my daughter bank account. When my promotion at work goes threw I will get a raise of a little over $19,000 a year. When the new boss takes over our health insurance is going to improve and make a 180 degree turn. Right now with my insurance premium and copay i pay on the average $425 a month for health insurance at work. WOW THATS A CADDY PAYMENT RIGHT THERE. So in the long run everyone will benefit i get my caddy and maybe in a few years another bike and my wife will be able to quit her job someday and stay at home, that is her dream. My baby girl will have a nice piggy bank when she is ready for college or the real world.

Life is so grand. I just wish all these changes at work would have happened last year i could have kept my X1.

Paw,

Before you proceed (with whatever you choose), I highly recommend you read this thread:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/269662.html?1175888043

Even if you don't get another bike, you'll save yourself headaches later if you let your wife know now that you have all intentions of getting another motorcycle at some point in the future.

Paw, I meant no disrespect. I had no idea that Caddy prices were so reasonable. I guess a lease will make it more affordable as well. I just know the first time I bought a new car I was blown away with how big the difference between list and OTD prices are (16%). Anyway, I'm rambling now. Take care of that baby girl.

hughlysses,

My wife knows i like bikes and she does not hate them. She hates the idea of me on one but when the baby is older and we have more time to ourselves she will get the urge to ride. Thats why i say there might be a bike in my future. She enjoyed being on the back of my X1 of course not long rides. So maybe there will be a Victory parked next to the caddy in a few years. And i never make a major purchase without discussing it with her.
