I have been writing for a while . . . have been contacted by 3 publishers and will be doing something. Funny thing but a year ago there was no interest. . . I got a letter last Thursday expressing great interest. Wonder what happened? I'd be interested to hear what folks want. I've had comments from folks who are collectors who just want an authoritative book to classify and confirm "vintage" (hurts to say) Buells. One such e-mail came after the recent gig at the Larz Anderson Museum when I took one look at their RSS-1200 and spouted "that's no RSS" . . . whispered in Erik's ear and he said "damn, you're right". On the other hand, I have a couple "please tell us the juicy behind the scenes stuff". There is a significant body of knowledge in that regard. It may be a bit of a race . . . I think HD would like to quick get their version out . .  If you have any thoughts, I'd like to hear them. Here. . . take a look for yourself.  | ||

Iam continually learning everyday. A book would be beneficial. Not to mention how many others would really like to know the truth behind it all. Please do write a book if thats what you choose. | ||

Start with the "making of the VROD" infomercial as your reference, then do something that is in every way as different from that as is humanly possible. Or start with the HD PR group talking points, follow them to the letter, but do it all terribly terribly wrong (from their perspective). In all seriousness, Buell bikes are great, but Buell people are amazing. Tell the stories of the bikes through the people. And while it probably would not sell as well, I would love to hear the stories of the engineering exercises (good and bad). Like "soul of a new machine" (by Tracy Kidder?)... but write it for motorcycles. | ||

so court, do you mention anything about the fxrt and to how much involvement he had in it's development. that's what i would like to read about the most. | ||

I would like to hear about testing, who has done it , what happened, where and not just race tracks but off road and street stuff, how long, ergonomics, endurance, water, heat, crash, what worked, what failed, what had to change, surprises and such. There has to be a story in there somewhere. | ||

Oh....on topic,i'd like to read about Erik and his racing career.I'd like to read specifications of the (Barton?) early engines'.Assembly details/methods of bikes' built at the barn.The evolution of the tuber,as well as the development of the XB and XBRR. Quality controls,and current assembly You should hold publication until you can write details of the dirt bikes' and SUPERBIKE  | ||

just noticing on the pic what kind of controls you have on that bike. are they self canceling turn signals and were they stock or added on. | ||

I for one would love to see a book written on the history of the Buell company as well as Erik Buell. Would buy at least two. A name that popped into my head when I read the thread title was: Allan Girdler & his book on the XR-750. A Buell book done as well as that would be incredible. But hardcover and w/color pics.... | ||

The controls were self cancelling. That bike is NOT as RSS. It was an RS that they bought an RSS tail section for. Dead give away . . . all RSS's had an oil temp (yes, we have plenty left . . . long story there) smack dab in the center of the panel. Great suggestions . . . I've got 4 of those plastic containers you get at Costco full of photos and 14 "Elves" in the wings willing to contribute. The hardest part shall be culling . . . time to tell the story. | ||

I suspect that by this time in Buell history, there may be enough material for more than one book... the first would be an "official" factory-authorized history, including drawings and photos only the company would possess. The second volume might be a more informal, anecdotal history more related to the stories and recollections and photos of the people involved. I'm sure that both of these would find a place on my bookshelf. I wonder if there's enough video footage to make up a companion DVD... hmmm. And of course Ducxl is correct... this is a story that is FAR from over... [grin]. | ||

Court, if you do have any stuff concerning the fxrt, that erik supposedly had input on, i think it would be great to hear about. from what i understand, that was one of his first projects that he cut his teeth on. yes or no. | ||

I don't have that particular view from my RS. My RS has some of those RSS features that were installed at the barn.  | ||

I have that view available plus the view with an oil temp gauge as well. In fact the one with the oil pressure gauge is sitting behind me n my office right now!!  | ||
